Cyber Security Engineer

Manchester (Hybrid – 1-2 days in the office)

Up to £50k + Benefits

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join a growing organisation that continues to invest in its people, technology, and security capabilities. This is a hands-on role focused on strengthening the organisation's security posture and delivering key initiatives across its Cyber Security Roadmap. Working within a Microsoft-centric technology environment, you will have the opportunity to implement, configure and improve their security controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver security projects and initiatives across the Cyber Security Roadmap.
  • Manage and enhance Microsoft Defender, Intune, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 security controls.
  • Improve security across endpoints, identities, applications, cloud services, and infrastructure.
  • Support vulnerability identification, prioritisation, and remediation.
  • Monitor security alerts and support incident investigation and response.
  • Work with IT teams to resolve vulnerabilities, security weaknesses, and configuration issues.
  • Maintain effective security controls and support Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus, and CIS Controls.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and security procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to automate security processes and improve efficiency.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience administering and improving Microsoft 365 security controls.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender technologies, including Defender for Endpoint and Microsoft 365 Defender.
  • Experience supporting vulnerability management and remediation activities.
  • Knowledge of security monitoring, alert triage, incident response, and technical investigation.
  • Experience configuring or supporting security controls across cloud, endpoint, and identity platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical approach to reducing cyber risk.

  • Microsoft Security Operations Analyst Associate certification.
  • Microsoft Azure Security Engineer Associate certification.
  • CompTIA Security+, CISSP, SSCP, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience supporting security frameworks and compliance initiatives.
  • Experience with Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus, or CIS Controls.
