About the Opportunity
We are looking for a security-focused and technically curious individual to join one of our client organisations in the United Kingdom as a Cyber Security Intern. This opportunity is suitable for students, recent graduates, and aspiring cybersecurity professionals interested in security operations, threat detection, vulnerability management, network security, cloud security, and information protection.
The successful candidate will support cybersecurity activities while working alongside experienced professionals in a remote environment. The role provides practical exposure to defensive security practices and the opportunity to develop technical, analytical, and investigative skills.
Role Overview
The Cyber Security Intern will assist with security monitoring, vulnerability assessment, incident investigation, risk management, security controls, and cybersecurity documentation.
The ideal candidate should have a foundational understanding of networking, operating systems, security principles, and common cyber threats, together with a strong interest in protecting systems, applications, networks, and information.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor security alerts, system activity, logs, and network traffic for suspicious behaviour.
- Assist in reviewing potential security incidents and escalating findings where appropriate.
- Support vulnerability scanning, assessment, prioritisation, and remediation activities.
- Analyse security logs and event information to identify unusual activity.
- Assist with incident response investigations and security documentation.
- Support security assessments across applications, networks, endpoints, infrastructure, and cloud environments.
- Help identify security weaknesses and document recommended remediation actions.
- Participate in cybersecurity risk assessments and security control reviews.
- Assist with maintaining technical security controls and defensive practices.
- Support identity and access management reviews.
- Assist with security configuration assessments.
- Contribute to security policies, procedures, awareness activities, and documentation.
- Maintain records relating to vulnerabilities, incidents, assessments, findings, and remediation.
- Work with IT, infrastructure, cloud, engineering, and other technical teams.
- Participate in security reviews and technical discussions.
- Research emerging vulnerabilities, threats, attack techniques, and defensive technologies.
- Support continuous improvement of cybersecurity processes and controls.

Required Qualifications
- Currently studying towards or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
- Cybersecurity
- Computer Science
- Information Security
- Information Technology
- Computer Engineering
- Network Security
- Software Engineering
- or a related technical discipline.
- Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
- Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, VPNs, and firewalls.
- Basic familiarity with Windows and Linux.
- Awareness of common cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
- Understanding of authentication, authorisation, access control, and encryption.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently within a remote environment.
- Genuine interest in developing cybersecurity knowledge.

- Familiarity with penetration testing concepts within authorised environments.
- Basic knowledge of cloud security and access controls.
- Awareness of NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO/IEC 27001, CIS Controls, or similar frameworks.
- Understanding of vulnerability management and security risk assessment.
- Familiarity with the incident response lifecycle.
- Basic knowledge of threat intelligence and common attack methods.
- Exposure to endpoint, network, application, or infrastructure security.
- Familiarity with scripting using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Interest in security automation.
- Ability to independently research and learn new cybersecurity concepts.
