The Role:
Are you a hands-on cyber security specialist ready to take ownership of security across a growing UK business?
Charles Simon Associates are recruiting a Cyber Security Lead for a business with sites across the UK. You’ll be its internal technical security lead, combining practical work across Microsoft security technologies with responsibility for external security providers, certification and the security improvement roadmap.
The Opportunity:
You’ll have real influence over the organisation’s security approach: improving existing controls, selecting future technologies and assessing whether SOC and SIEM capabilities should remain outsourced or move in-house.
What You’ll Do:
- Configure, harden and improve security across Microsoft Entra ID, Defender, Purview, Microsoft 365, Azure and Windows environments.
- Manage outsourced SOC, MDR and SIEM services, challenging providers on technical quality and performance.
- Lead cyber security incident response, including investigation, containment, recovery and root-cause analysis.
- Own vulnerability management and drive remediation through to completion.
- Coordinate penetration testing and technical security assessments.
- Lead Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO 27001 certification activities.
- Select security technologies and develop business cases for future investment and service delivery.
- Build and deliver a prioritised security improvement roadmap.
- Maintain security policies, standards and procedures.
- Explain security risks and progress to non-technical stakeholders.
- Deliver occasional onsite security awareness sessions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
