About The Client:
The client is a large organisation operating within a critical national infrastructure environment. As part of a wider technology and cyber transformation programme, they are strengthening their operational cyber capability to better protect business-critical services, systems, and data.
They are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Operations Manager to lead security operations, improve cyber resilience, and support the ongoing maturity of their security function.
About The Role:
This is a senior contract opportunity for an experienced cyber security leader responsible for managing operational security across a complex enterprise environment.
You will oversee day-to-day security operations, coordinate the response to cyber incidents, improve threat detection capabilities, and help shape the organisation's operational security strategy. Working closely with technical teams, senior leadership, and external partners, you'll ensure the organisation is prepared to identify, respond to, and recover from evolving cyber threats.
The role also includes responsibility for leading a team of security specialists while driving improvements to operational processes, governance, tooling, and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Security
- Lead the organisation's operational cyber security capability and day-to-day security activities.
- Develop and improve processes for threat detection, monitoring, investigation, and response.
- Ensure security tooling and operational controls remain effective and fit for purpose.
- Identify opportunities to improve resilience through process, technology, and operational enhancements.

Incident & Threat Management
- Direct the response to security incidents, ensuring timely investigation, containment, recovery, and lessons learned.
- Oversee vulnerability management activities and coordinate remediation efforts with technical teams.
- Evaluate emerging threats and incorporate intelligence into operational security activities.
- Produce recommendations that strengthen the organisation's cyber posture.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead, develop, and support a team of 8 cyber security professionals.
- Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, third-party suppliers, and external security partners.
- Present operational risks, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Manage supplier performance and ensure security services meet agreed standards.
Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain operational policies, standards, and procedures supporting security operations.
- Define meaningful performance measures and use them to improve service delivery.
- Contribute to planning, budgeting, and future capability development across the security function.
- Ensure security operations align with recognised industry standards and regulatory obligations.
Essential Experience & Technical Skills
- Extensive experience managing Security Operations or Cyber Defence teams.
- Proven leadership of security incident response within large enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of SIEM platforms, threat detection technologies, endpoint security, and network monitoring.
- Experience managing vulnerability management programmes and remediation activities.
- Good understanding of recognised cyber security frameworks, standards, and legislation.
- Knowledge of threat intelligence, attack techniques, and security monitoring methodologies.
- Experience managing third-party security providers and operational service delivery.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team management experience.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical teams and senior stakeholders.
- Experience working within structured IT service management environments.

Desirable Experience
- Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent.
- Experience securing cloud-based environments including AWS or Azure.
- ITIL certification or similar service management experience.
- Experience working within government, defence, utilities, or other regulated sectors.
- Active UK Security Clearance.
