Role Description

The Cycle Mechanic role is a full-time, on-site position based in Putney. The Cycle Mechanic will perform day-to-day tasks including diagnosing mechanical issues, carrying out routine services, and completing repairs on a wide variety of bicycles.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembling new bikes
  • Performing safety checks
  • Adjusting gears and brakes
  • Replacing worn parts
  • Ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards
  • Advising customers on maintenance needs
  • Explaining repair options and costs
  • Maintaining a clean, organized workshop
  • Working closely with the team to manage workloads

Qualifications

  • Strong practical skills in maintenance and repair of bicycles, including routine servicing and component replacement.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance practices to identify wear and potential faults before they become safety issues.
  • Ability to perform effective troubleshooting, including diagnosing mechanical problems and selecting appropriate repair solutions.
  • Comfort working with varying types of equipment (e.g., road bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes), with any experience handling heavy equipment or workshop machinery considered an advantage.
  • Previous experience as a cycle mechanic or in a similar mechanical role, with knowledge of common bike brands and component systems.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Good customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in clear, accessible language.
  • Ability to work on-site in Putney, manage physical tasks, and collaborate effectively within a small team.
  • Relevant training or certification in bicycle maintenance or mechanics is beneficial.
