Job Description
About the role as a Cycle Workshop Trainer:
Activate Cycle Academy are the UK’s foremost training organisation for Cytech commercial and Apprenticeship based Cycle Mechanic Training. We are looking for an experienced cycle mechanic with extensive knowledge covering all types of bike and e-bike, to run training courses.
As a Workshop Trainer, you will deliver high-quality teaching, training and assessment to students and a range of client groups, ensuring an engaging and supportive learning experience. Based primarily at the Oxford Cycles Workshop, you will work to the College's quality standards and may occasionally deliver training at other locations as required.
This is a full time, permanent role working 37 hours per week based at the Leys College campus. The role is primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend working required.
What do you need to be a successful Cycle Workshop Trainer at Activate Learning?
You will have experience working in a bicycle workshop, carrying out custom builds, servicing, and repairs across a range of bikes and components. You should have a strong understanding of workshop best practice, manufacturer specifications, technical resources, and health and safety requirements.
Cytech Level 3 qualifications are desirable, although equivalent experience will be considered. Knowledge of electronic groupsets, suspension servicing, stock management, and ordering from trade suppliers would be advantageous.
While teaching or coaching experience is beneficial, the most desirable quality is being a skilled, hands-on mechanic who is confident demonstrating practical skills and engaging with small groups of learners.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Several years' experience in a bicycle workshop
- Strong knowledge of road, MTB, e-bike, and hybrid bikes
- Good organisational and stock management skills
- Experience using IT systems for workshop administration and supplier ordering
- Confidence delivering practical demonstrations to small groups
- A commitment to continuous professional development
- Willingness to work towards training and assessing qualifications if not already held

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
