Job Overview
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join NELFT as a CAMHS Practitioner - CYP-PT Therapy Trainee, as part of the NHS England funded Children and Young People’s Psychological Trainings (CYP-PT) Programme.
For the January 2027 intake, NELFT is offering training placements in three specific modalities:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) training at King’s College London (KCL)
- Systemic Family Practice Conduct Disorder and Depression (SFP CDD) training at King’s College London (KCL)
- Autism Spectrum Conditions/Learning Disabilities (ASC/LD) training at University College London (UCL), in partnership with Anna Freud.
Successful candidates will undertake a fully funded postgraduate training programme alongside supervised clinical practice within our CAMHS and MHST services in Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced and motivated practitioners who are passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people and families and wish to develop specialist therapeutic skills within their chosen modality.
Main duties of the job
The Successful Candidate Will
- Undertake the required postgraduate training programme and complete all academic and clinical components.
- Deliver evidence-based assessments and interventions appropriate to their specialist modality.
- Manage an agreed clinical caseload alongside the requirements of the training programme.
- Work collaboratively with children, young people, parents/carers and other professionals.
- Undertake risk assessments and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- Attend university teaching, protected study time and regular clinical supervision.
- Apply learning from the training programme directly to clinical practice.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, outcome measures and service data.
- Work effectively as part of the wider multidisciplinary CAMHS team.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
This is a training and development role, combining postgraduate study with supervised clinical practice within NELFT Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services.
The post holder will undertake specialist training in CBT, SFP CDD or ASC/LD, according to the post for which they are appointed, while developing and applying their clinical skills within the service.
They will assess and work therapeutically with children, young people and/or families, delivering evidence-based interventions appropriate to their specialist pathway. The post holder will manage an agreed caseload, maintain accurate clinical records and outcome data, and assess and respond appropriately to clinical risk and safeguarding concerns.
Trainees will be expected to fully participate in university teaching, assessments, protected study time and clinical supervision and demonstrate how their learning is being applied within clinical practice.

Important information for applicants
These are NHS England funded training posts, combining employment within NELFT with a fully funded postgraduate training programme.
Candidates appointed to the CBT or SFP CDD pathways will undertake the CYP-PT Therapies PG Dip at King's College London.
The KCL programme commences on 18 January 2027, with university applications for the January 2027 intake open from 3 August to 25 November 2026. Course fees are paid by NHS England.
Candidates appointed to the ASC/LD pathway will undertake the Children and Young People's Psychological Trainings: Therapy PG Dip at UCL, delivered in partnership with Anna Freud.
The programme includes specialist training in Autism Spectrum Conditions/Learning Disabilities (ASCLD) and commences in January 2027. UCL currently lists applications as open until 16 December 2026 at 5pm.
Starting with NELFT and applying for the course
Successful candidates will be expected to join NELFT on 4 January 2027, allowing time to complete local Trust induction, mandatory training and service orientation before commencing their university programme.
These are dual application posts. Candidates must apply for both the NELFT employment post and the relevant university training programme. Appointment is dependent upon meeting the requirements and being accepted onto the appropriate university course.
Candidates should therefore apply to the relevant university at the same time as applying for the NELFT post and clearly identify the modality for which they are applying.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes Hospital

High-Cost Area Supplement Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest)
This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 p.a. pro rata for part time).
