Dairy Development / Sales Manager

We are seeking a driven and knowledgeable Dairy Development / Sales Manager to join our successful team in Scotland, based in Strathaven. Combining technical expertise with a commercial mindset, you will work closely with dairy farmers and agricultural customers to provide tailored solutions, maximise performance and profitability, and support the continued growth of our dairy business.

THE JOB

To drive growth and profitability within an agreed Sales Policy and territory by developing a focused customer ledger to achieve the agreed budget and target levels for both volume and margin. As a dairy development manager, you will provide expert technical advice and support to colleagues and customers, ensuring excellent service delivery and solutions. The role also involves identifying opportunities for expanding dairy business through innovative nutritional programmes, improved feed efficiency and maximising product usage.

  • Develop and manage a focused ledger of dairy customers through building strong relationships with key dairy farmers, offering tailored feeding solutions.
  • Achieve sales targets and margins through proactive business development within the agreed territories.
  • Regularly review customer needs to ensure products and services meet their needs and objectives.
  • Provide technical support to the sales team and offer training on the latest dairy nutrition and product developments.
  • Assist colleagues with complex nutritional queries and provide field support during customer visits where advanced technical knowledge is required.
  • Stay up to date with industry advancements, research, and regulatory changes to provide cutting-edge solutions to the team and customers.
  • Identify growth opportunities within delivery areas, particularly with dairy-focused prospects.
  • Collaborate with the mill teams to align product offerings and ensure the most effective use of the company's feed portfolio.
  • Work with marketing to develop promotional materials and campaigns that support dairy feed sales growth.
  • Utilise and maintain CRM information in your area.
  • Act as a liaison between the technical team, nutritionists, and sales colleagues to ensure consistency in product knowledge and sales approaches.
  • Deliver presentations and organise training sessions for colleagues and customers on dairy nutrition, herd management and feed efficiency.
  • Participate in the development of new product lines by providing market feedback and customer needs.
  • Attend and actively contribute to the monthly sales meetings.
  • Monitor competitor activities and share insights with the broader team to capitalise on emerging trends, opportunities or gaps in the market.
  • Report on progress in assigned areas, focusing on sales targets, customer retention, and business development activities.
  • Maximise retail revenue by actively promoting the complete product range and turning every customer touchpoint into a sales opportunity. You will drive performance by championing marketing campaigns and use CRM to identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Company and Group policies and procedures, including but not limited to those relating to Safety, Health and Environmental.
  • Maintain compliance with feed safety, animal health, and environmental regulations and all relevant legislation and approved codes of practice, are adhered to in respect of ongoing compliance, including but not limited to UFAS, FIAS, & NOPS assurance schemes.

Skills, Experience And Qualities Required

Essential:

  • Strong background in dairy nutrition and feed formulation
  • Experience of driving growth in sales.
  • Proven track record in dairy feed sales and account management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyse data, identify sales data and trends and make informed decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and support the wider team with technical expertise.
  • Experience of managing a sales ledger through the use of a CRM system.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to business development.
