Our Data Acquisition (DA) team uses statutory powers to obtain bulk third-party information on behalf of key internal stakeholders to support data led compliance work. This is primarily under Schedule 23 of the Finance Act 2011 but also includes obtaining information through other legal gateways, for example obtaining information from other government departments.
This role provides an opportunity to contribute directly to HMRC’s strategic objectives by improving the services we provide to both internal and external customers which are vital to underpin HMRC’s compliance activities and support HMRC’s strategic objective to close the tax gap. The role involves working collaboratively with colleagues to support effective service delivery.
Job Description
We are looking for motivated and conscientious candidates to join the Data Acquisition and Exchange team, you will either be placed in the Sch23 Penalty Team or Data Receipting and Processing Team.
The Data Receipting and Processing Team is responsible for processing and ingestion of bulk third party data into the HMRC estate along with challenging the quality of data provided to HMRC and where appropriate charge penalties.
The Schedule 23 Penalty Team is responsible for enforcing compliance with Data Holder Notices under Sch23 of the Finance Act 2011, through the imposition of non-compliance penalties.
You will play a critical role in managing and progressing Data Holder compliance, in line with legislation and HMRC standards.
You will be expected to demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of relevant rules and processes.
Working in an operational environment with competing priorities, you will manage your own workload effectively while meeting agreed service standards and targets.
You will be able to demonstrate strong customer service skills and the ability to remain professional under pressure.
CDIO Data Acquisition and Exchange is undergoing a Third-Party Data (TPD) transformation programme into 2028, as a result you will need to be adaptable to meet the changing needs of the business. You will need to demonstrate an ability to embrace and adapt to change, based on the needs of the business.

Key Responsibilities Include
- Analyse data, information and case history support operational, compliance and customer service activities, ensuring work is completed accurately, to deadlines and in line with legislation.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling sensitive or regulated data.
- Ability to work in a structured, process-driven environment with focus on accuracy and quality
- Clearly and effectively communicating with internal and external customers via telephone, email and letter, in line with GDPR principles.
- Working collaboratively and flexibly as part of a team, towards shared goals.
- Application of effective audit skills, ensuring internal systems are clearly updated with reasoned and justifiable decisions.
- An ability to embrace and adapt to change in line with Continuous Improvement (CI) principles.
Essential Criteria
- Effectively prioritise and manage your own workload to ensure KPI’s and deadlines are met.
- Confidently communicating with internal and external customers by phone and email, escalating for advice where necessary.
- Ability to collate and review data or information in order to make effective decisions in line with guidance and legislation.
- Demonstrate experience in delivering work accurately within a compliance or process driven environment.
- Ability to handle sensitive information securely and in line with governance requirements.

Reserve List
