What to Expect
We’re seeking a Data Acquisition Engineer to join our highly skilled Development Team, based at the McLaren Technology Centre UK to plan, deliver & support instrumentation installations across our high performance vehicle programs and associated test activities on our fleet of development vehicles and factory-based test rigs.
What You'll Do
The Data Acquisition Engineer will report to the Test Instrumentation Manager, responsibilities include;

Plan and coordinate vehicle instrumentation across multiple projects, programmes and test assets. Liaise with key stakeholders across multiple departments understand project requirements, communicate progress, and resolve issues.

Lead design, specification, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation & measurement systems. Design and implement microcontroller (Arduino, Raspberry Pi etc.) solutions to automate and control test rigs.

Support testing of prototype and production vehicles in the UK and around the world, supporting detailed data analysis and fault rectification where required.

Ensure all instrumentation & measurement equipment meets calibration requirements, including record keeping and measurement uncertainty of our master reference equipment.

To maintain accurate instrumentation records of the development fleet vehicles, Ensuring Test data safety (backup, synchronisation, sharing etc), software updates and configuration records.

What You'll Bring
-
Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent significant experience

Experienced Instrumentation / test engineer within a vehicle development environment with substantial experience of vehicle instrumentation & data acquisition tools such as Ipetronik, Dewesoft, Vector Canalyzer, alongside calibration and diagnostic tools and equipment.

Experience in sensor specification and application, appropriate measurement techniques, sensor installations and considerations for best-in-class measurements, Knowledge of calibration of systems to ISO17025.

Working knowledge of Analog Electronics and considerations for Electrical circuit design, and Motorsport or Aeronautical wiring systems and connectors.

Detailed working knowledge of Vehicle CAN & LIN networking and diagnostics is essential, Automotive ethernet experience would be an advantage.

Experience with specialist measurement techniques, including Inertial systems (RTK GPS), Wheel force transducers, strain gauging etc and familiarity with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, PLC, Python etc.

Experience in vehicle data analysis, recognising issues with data and identifying route cause to rectify.

Capability to develop and create tests and measurement solutions on new technologies where no test standard currently exists.
