Data & AI Engineer
Based onsite full time in our Leatherhead, Surrey office.
We have an exciting opportunity for a bright, passionate, and driven individual to join our successful, dynamic, and reputable multi-utilities business. This role will sit within our Technology team and requires an individual with a high-level of competency in data analytics, automation and AI and a proactive approach to problem solving and the confidence to independently learn new technologies. This is a junior role within the team and would suit a recent graduate in Computer Science or similar.
This role will be dedicated to identifying opportunities and improvements to enhance our current systems and their ability both through the use data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to identify opportunities, realise efficiency savings, minimise risks and improve customer service.
Key Accountabilities
The Data & AI Engineer is accountable for using software, artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyse and interpret large amounts of data and support the successful implementation of new technologies and improved system functionality, including automation across ESP.
- Review and understand business processes and data requirements and specify data analytics and automation solutions
- Produce simple to understand management insight using Microsoft Fabric, Power BI and machine learning to analyse large amounts of data to support improved decision making.
- Implement process automation solutions using Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power platform (and other AI solutions and relevant scripting languages) to help the business to improve business efficiency and customer experience
- Maintain and support data platform to ensure data security, integrity and accuracy in all reports and analytics.
- Maintain and support automation solutions to ensure continued efficient operation, and business process continuity.
- Continuously improve and optimise existing reports and automation processes.

You will be an advocate for Data Analytics and AI within the business and will take a proactive role in ensuring that individuals and teams have the systems and resources in place that will enable ESP to deliver in line with our fast-paced and agile commercial strategy.
This individual will produce simple to understand management insight by using technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), to analyse large amounts of data to help improve decision making.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and interpret large amounts of data from a range of sources– using technical, analytical and communication skills to collect and examine data to help provide management insight to make better informed decisions and solve problems.
- Development of automation solutions – understanding business processes and requirements and identifying appropriate solutions to improve business efficiency and customer outcomes through the use of automation and AI
- Support and maintain the data platform and automation solutions to ensure the ongoing integrity or the environment and ensure efficient operation of the solutions
- Inspire stakeholders to recognise opportunities that are beyond their current understanding – helping break down the barrier of how things are ‘now’ and articulate the future alternatives which would support improved working practises, process enhancements and a greater sense of ease of business for our external stakeholders.
- Share regular presentations – with audiences at all levels within the business as appropriate to help illustrate project progress, achievements, challenges, and a commitment to departmental/business strategy.
- Support the system Super User community – reviewing feedback collected via this forum, helping articulate how system development could support any pain points/change requests raised and delivering actions assigned as an output of the work inspired by this community.
- Hands-on support / participation in system testing – on an as required basis, undertake system testing for new developments and changes thus allowing the opportunity to track back to the original business requirements, testing may sometimes be addressed before handing across to the business for further testing or be carried out alongside the business itself.

Skills Needed:
- Degree in Computer Science, or a related field
- An aptitude for understanding IT software, systems and highly technical solutions
- Advanced knowledge of relevant scripting languages (e.g. Python, R, SQL, JavaScript)
- Experience Microsoft Power platform, Fabric, PowerBI
- A passion and ability to learn new technologies, as full training will be provided
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skill including experience with data analytics
- A positive and innovative approach to problem solving, be able to understand and empathise with business users’ issues and problems
- Must be collaborative and not confrontational in approach
- An ‘eye’ for improvements and realising opportunities for efficiency gains
- Confident and professional communications skills incl. presenting
- Solid working knowledge of standard Microsoft products
- Experience Microsoft Power Apps, Fabric, PowerBI
