About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer to spearhead the development of our first group data platform built on Microsoft Fabric. This pivotal role involves designing, building, and managing a comprehensive data infrastructure that consolidates data from various business systems, replacing fragmented reporting processes. The ideal candidate will work directly with senior leadership and business teams to gather requirements, prioritize initiatives, and establish data management standards. As the first senior data hire, you will be responsible for the architecture, implementation, and ongoing operation of the data platform, including pipelines, capacity planning, cost management, and reliability. The role also encompasses developing conversational AI tools and a self-service business intelligence layer that enable colleagues to interact with data efficiently and securely. This is a hands-on position requiring technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong stakeholder engagement skills to lay the foundation for a data-driven culture within the organization.

Qualifications
- Experience designing and building a data platform from scratch, with responsibility for architecture and delivery in a business with limited existing data capability
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, or PySpark, with practical experience in ELT pipelines, dimensional modeling, source control, and CI/CD practices
- Hands-on experience implementing data governance and self-service BI solutions, including ownership, quality standards, training, and user adoption
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, or Databricks Lakehouse architecture, including medallion architecture
- Strong skills in Power BI semantic modeling and DAX, capable of managing shared datasets and business measures
- Ability to independently gather requirements from senior stakeholders, resolve conflicting definitions, and communicate technical decisions clearly
- Relevant Microsoft certifications in Azure or Fabric are desirable
- Experience connecting AI tools to governed data, such as Copilot or natural language querying, and testing their accuracy is a plus
- Knowledge of Business Central or similar ERP systems, especially in manufacturing or distribution sectors, is advantageous
- Experience with multi-entity and multi-currency reporting in a group environment is preferred
Responsibilities
- Lead the gathering of data requirements across the organization and maintain a prioritized backlog aligned with capacity
- Design, build, and operate the Microsoft Fabric data platform, including pipelines, capacity management, cost control, and system reliability
- Integrate various operational systems such as Business Central, CRM, HR, and other enterprise applications across global entities
- Establish source control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, and alerting standards, documenting best practices for the future team
- Define and implement data governance, security, and quality standards appropriate for the company's data maturity level
- Collaborate with business owners to develop and agree on KPI definitions, creating certified Power BI semantic models to support reporting needs
- Set standards for data ownership, security, access controls, row-level security, and sensitive data masking
- Deliver comprehensive executive and operational reports from governed datasets, ensuring consistency and accuracy
- Assist business users in data analysis, providing training, access, and ongoing support for approved datasets
- Prepare semantic models for AI integration, ensuring clear data definitions, relationships, and rules for interpretation
- Develop secure mechanisms for AI agents and conversational tools to query and retrieve data, enforcing user permissions
- Act as the technical liaison to AI & Automation partners, ensuring AI solutions utilize governed data appropriately
