£75,000 – £90,000 + benefits
AI & Machine Learning | Data Science | Technical Consulting | Defence & Government
Are you an experienced Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, AI Consultant or AI/ML specialist who enjoys sharing your knowledge with others?
Perhaps you've spent your career building AI and ML solutions, working with Defence or Government customers, leading technical teams or solving complex data problems and you've found that you particularly enjoy the part where you get to explain, demonstrate and develop the capability of others.
If so, this could be a very interesting next step.
We're looking for a Principal Data & AI Trainer to join a growing technical training and consulting team, working with Defence and Government organisations to help their people understand, adopt and apply the latest developments across Data, AI and Machine Learning.
This isn't a traditional training role. Your technical credibility comes first. You'll use your industry experience to help design solutions, shape curriculum and deliver engaging technical training to experienced professionals.
The Role
You'll operate across three key areas:
Technical Training & Delivery
Deliver engaging, practical training across areas including:
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
- Data Science and advanced analytics
- Generative AI and Large Language Models
- Modern AI/ML engineering practices
- MLOps and production AI
- Emerging technologies and developments across the AI landscape
You'll work with technical audiences ranging from engineers and data professionals through to senior stakeholders, adapting your delivery to the needs and technical maturity of each customer.
Technical Consulting & Solution Development
You'll also work alongside customers and internal teams to:
- Understand technical capability gaps and training requirements
- Translate complex AI and Data concepts into practical learning
- Support the development of technical solutions and learning programmes
- Contribute to curriculum and course development
- Advise customers on emerging technologies and best practice
- Develop demonstrations, exercises and practical learning materials
- Keep content current as the AI landscape continues to evolve

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Continuous Development
You won't be expected to know everything across Data, AI and ML from day one. You'll be encouraged and supported to deepen your expertise in areas outside your current specialism. You'll have access to the full range of professional certifications and training available through the organisation, with dedicated paid development time to continue building your technical knowledge.
What We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in people coming from backgrounds such as:
- Data Scientist
- Senior/Lead Data Scientist
- Machine Learning Engineer
- AI Engineer
- Machine Learning Consultant
- AI Consultant
- Data & AI Consultant
- Applied Scientist
- AI/ML Research Engineer
- Technical Consultant
- Solutions Architect
You don't need to be an expert across every aspect of AI.
We're much more interested in someone with strong hands-on industry experience in one or more areas of AI, ML or Data Science, combined with the ability and enthusiasm to communicate that knowledge to others.
You'll ideally have:
- Strong commercial experience across Data Science, AI or Machine Learning
- Strong Python experience
- Practical understanding of modern ML/AI techniques
- Experience taking technical concepts or solutions from development through to implementation
- Experience communicating complex technical subjects to non-specialist or technical audiences
- Experience delivering training, workshops, presentations, demonstrations, mentoring or technical knowledge-sharing
- A genuine interest in keeping up with emerging AI technologies and practices
- The confidence to work directly with customers and senior stakeholders
Formal teaching qualifications aren't essential.
You may currently be a technical specialist who has never held the job title "Trainer" but regularly mentors colleagues, delivers technical workshops, presents research, runs customer sessions or leads knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
That's exactly the sort of background we'd like to hear from.
Defence & Government Experience
You'll be working with customers in the Defence and Government sectors, so previous experience in environments such as Defence, Government, national security, critical infrastructure or other highly regulated organisations would be highly advantageous.
Experience with organisations such as Defence primes, Government departments, consultancies or technology providers serving the public sector would be particularly relevant.
Active SC clearance is required for the role.
Location & Travel
The role is UK-based, with key customer hubs around:
- Cheltenham
- Birmingham
- London
There will be some travel to customer sites when face-to-face training is required, with all reasonable travel expenses covered from home.
However, this isn't a Monday-to-Friday-away-from-home role. Many weeks will involve curriculum development, technical consulting and solution work that can be completed remotely.
Training is predominantly delivered during the working week, with no weekend work expected. Where an overnight stay is required, this will generally be limited rather than a regular five-day-a-week travel pattern.
What's On Offer?
- £75,000 – £90,000 salary
- Permanent position
- Hybrid/remote working depending on customer requirements
- Paid travel expenses from home
- Access to a comprehensive range of technical certifications
- Dedicated paid development time
- Exposure to cutting-edge AI, Data and ML technologies
- Work directly with Defence and Government customers
- Opportunity to influence curriculum and technical learning strategy
- A role where your existing technical expertise is valued rather than requiring you to become a career trainer
