About The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Data Analyst to join our Finance team on a 6-month fixed-term contract or staff secondment basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals eager to develop their analytical skills and contribute to data-driven decision-making processes within a reputable media organization. As a Data Analyst embedded within the Financial team, you will support high-quality, stakeholder-relevant analysis, ensuring analytical rigor while effectively communicating insights. You will utilize SQL and visualization tools such as Tableau to uncover patterns, generate insights, and support various projects across departments. The role involves maintaining high standards of data integrity and ethical compliance, particularly concerning data privacy and security policies. You will work closely with peers and stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and collaboration. This position is ideal for someone passionate about data, journalism, and the broader media industry, seeking to make a tangible impact through insightful analysis.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with SQL and large datasets in either a professional or academic setting. Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Looker is essential, along with the ability to interpret complex data and support decision-making processes. A solid understanding of how data can be applied to support business or editorial objectives is required. Candidates should possess the ability to analyze unstructured data, demonstrating curiosity and attention to detail. Experience in data mapping, data migration, and data testing is advantageous but not mandatory. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams are vital. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to high-quality, stakeholder-relevant analysis by leveraging SQL and visualization tools to identify trends and generate actionable insights.
  • Maintain rigorous analytical standards while engaging in insight communication and peer learning activities.
  • Build and nurture strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across different functions to foster trust and understanding.
  • Support the onboarding of new team members and collaborate on larger projects alongside experienced colleagues.
  • Utilize data analytics for system testing, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Demonstrate curiosity about The Guardian’s journalism, business model, and industry context.
  • Work within the framework of data privacy policies, ensuring all analyses are conducted ethically and securely.
  • Shape the organization’s approach to data-driven insights, supporting both operational and strategic objectives.
