Role Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical and commercially focused Data Analyst to join our high-volume claims management operation.
The Data Analyst will be responsible for turning large volumes of claims and operational data into meaningful insight that helps the business improve performance, increase efficiency, maintain data quality and make informed decisions.
The role will involve analysing claims volumes, processing times, outcomes, financial values, operational productivity and customer or client-level performance. The successful candidate will work closely with Claims Operations, Finance, Compliance, Technology and senior management.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working with large datasets, solving problems, identifying patterns and explaining what the data means to the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyse large volumes of claims, customer and operational data.
- Produce accurate daily, weekly and monthly performance reports.
- Develop dashboards and management information for operational and senior management teams.
- Track key performance indicators across the claims lifecycle.
- Analyse claim volumes, outcomes, processing times, settlement values, rejection rates and productivity.
- Identify trends, patterns and anomalies within claims data.
- Translate complex datasets into clear and actionable business insight.
Claims Performance Analysis
- Monitor the end-to-end claims journey and identify operational bottlenecks.
- Analyse performance by claim type, client, team, channel, campaign, handler or other relevant dimensions.
- Identify factors contributing to successful, unsuccessful, delayed or rejected claims.
- Monitor service levels, turnaround times and productivity.
- Support capacity planning by analysing historical and forecast claims volumes.
- Identify opportunities to improve processing efficiency and claims outcomes.

Data Quality & Governance
- Monitor the accuracy, completeness and consistency of claims data.
- Identify duplicate, missing, inconsistent or unusual records.
- Investigate data anomalies and work with operational and technical teams to resolve them.
- Develop data validation and quality-control checks.
- Maintain clear definitions for key metrics and reporting measures.
- Support data governance and reporting standards across the business.
Dashboard & MI Development
- Develop and maintain dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Python or similar.
- Automate recurring reports wherever possible.
- Create clear visualisations that allow stakeholders to understand performance quickly.
- Ensure dashboards and reports are based on accurate and appropriately controlled data.
- Continuously improve management information based on stakeholder requirements.
Forecasting & Insight
- Analyse historical claims data to identify trends and patterns.
- Support claims-volume forecasting and operational planning.
- Develop analytical models to support staffing and resource requirements.
- Identify potential performance issues before they become significant operational problems.
- Provide data-driven recommendations to improve efficiency and performance.
Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Claims Operations, Finance, Compliance, IT and senior management.
- Understand business questions and translate them into appropriate analytical requirements.
- Present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Challenge assumptions where the available data indicates a different conclusion.
- Support management with ad hoc analysis and business questions.

Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience in a Data Analyst, MI Analyst, Business Analyst or similar analytical role.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with large datasets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience creating reports, dashboards and management information.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to identify trends, anomalies and data-quality issues.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain data clearly.
Desirable
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Power BI experience, including DAX and data modelling.
- Experience with Python, R or another analytical programming language.
- Experience working with claims, insurance, financial services, legal services, debt recovery or other high-volume transactional environments.
- Experience with cloud databases, data warehouses or ETL processes.
- Understanding of GDPR, data protection and data governance requirements.
