Job Purpose

The role holder develops and maintains high-quality data and information services that enable better decision-making across the Agency. The role holder embeds consistent data standards, improves data workflows, and supports legacy systems.

The role holder ensures data is accessible, reliable and aligned with strategic goals, collaborating with teams across the Agency.

The role holder translates business needs into practical data solutions, enhancing performance and supporting the delivery of core services.

The role consistently demonstrates and embeds the values and behaviours in daily work, contributing to a positive and inclusive culture.

Job Function / Family

Data: We are responsible for the collation, organisation, interpretation, and analysis of data to provide critical business insights across the Agency. Our vision for data is clear: data should be well-designed, managed, and effectively utilised.

We focus on end-to-end automation, from data ingestion and engineering to reporting, ensuring efficiency and accuracy while maintaining sustainability and scalability.

We ensure that data products and services are seamlessly integrated into our business systems and processes. Our work supports data-driven decision-making and optimises operational efficiency.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, modelling, cleansing and aggregation of data to generate insights that support strategic decision-making.
  • Maintain and enhance core data assets, ensuring updates are managed effectively and intelligence is published for accessibility.
  • Ensure data models and structures used across applications meet agreed standards and are fit for purpose.
  • Implement and uphold data quality, security and change management standards to ensure consistency and mitigate risk.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and interpret data requirements, enabling the design of prototypes and proof of concepts.
  • Support the automation of data pipelines and delivery of information to underpin Agency performance and opportunity evaluation.
  • Contribute to the development of self-service analytical and reporting capabilities across the team.
  • Participate in the data practitioner community, sharing knowledge and promoting best practice across the Agency.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure data connectivity and alignment.
  • Communicate complex data findings clearly through visualisations and reports, influencing both technical and business stakeholders.

Person Specification

Key Skills, Knowledge And Experience

  • Recognised data analyst qualification such as Microsoft DA-100, or willingness to work towards one.
  • Strong experience with SQL and relational data systems.
  • Experience working with large, complex and varied data environments.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical data solutions.
  • Experience working in Agile environments and applying software design principles.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies, such as Microsoft Azure.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools such as SAP BI and metadata management standards.
  • Experience in advanced analytics using Python or R, and automating data processes.
