Reporting to the Impact Manager
The apprentice will gather data from multiple sources, ensure accuracy, and identify trends to inform decision-making. They'll contribute to dashboards, reports, and visualisations, helping communicate insights to stakeholders.

What you'll do at work
The L4 Data Analyst Apprentice in the Knowledge Exchange and Collaboration (KEC) team supports the collection, validation, and analysis of impact data to demonstrate programme outcomes. The apprentice also supports monitoring and evaluation processes, documents data practices, and collaborates with colleagues to understand reporting needs. Through developing skills in data analysis, communication, and problem-solving, they play a key role in strengthening evidence-based impact assessment.
Role responsibilities include:
- Collect and compile impact data from multiple internal and external sources.
- Clean, validate, and organise datasets to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Analyse data to identify trends, outcomes, and insights on programme impact.
- Create reports, dashboards, and visualisations to communicate findings clearly.
- Support monitoring & evaluation frameworks and impact measurement methods.
- Work with stakeholders to understand data needs and reporting requirements.
- Document processes, data definitions, and analysis methods.
- Ensure data governance, privacy, and ethical use of information.
The successful candidate
The successful candidate will have an interest in business analysis and data and be keen to develop their skills through the apprenticeship. They will be organised, have good attention to detail, and enjoy working with data to solve problems. They will also be able to work effectively with colleagues across the Institute and be willing to learn new systems and ways of working.
Essential
- GCSEs or Functional Skills at Level 2 (GCSE 4+) in English, Science, and Maths
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- An interest in data analysis, business improvement and project delivery
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Use data systems securely to meet requirements and in line with organisational procedures and legislation including principles of Privacy by Design
- Implement the stages of the data analysis lifecycle
- Apply principles of data classification within data analysis activity
- Analyse data sets taking account of different data structures and database designs
- Assess the impact on user experience and domain context on data analysis activity
- Identify and escalate quality risks in data analysis with suggested mitigation or resolutions as appropriate
- Undertake customer requirements analysis and implement findings in data analytics planning and outputs
- Identify data sources and the risks and challenges to combination within data analysis activity
- Apply organizational architecture requirements to data analysis activities
- Apply statistical methodologies to data analysis tasks
- Apply predictive analytics in the collation and use of data
- Collaborate and communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders using appropriate styles and behaviours to suit the audience
- Use a range of analytical techniques such as data mining, time series forecasting and modelling techniques to identify and predict trends and patterns in data
- Collate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data and convert into infographics, reports, tables, dashboards and graphs
- Select and apply the most appropriate data tools to achieve the optimum outcome
Training schedule
During this apprenticeship, you will follow a fully supported training programme with LearnTech, delivered through combined weekly remote classroom-based training, workplace assessment/training and online learning working towards completing the Data Analyst standard.

Other requirements
It is a requirement to have five GCSE 9-4 grades or equivalent (including English and Maths) to apply for this type of apprenticeship. A Level 3 qualification in Computer Science and/or a numerical subject (mathematics, statistics, physics, economics) is beneficial.

You must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the role:
- Have been a UK/EEA resident for the last 3 years
- Hold valid residency status
- Have the right to work in the UK
Due to the nature of the work carried out by Pirbright, all successful applicants will be required to go through a comprehensive screening process including reference and qualification checks, financial and security clearances.
