About the role
Joining Zepz as a Financial Crime Data Analyst, you will play a critical role in detecting, investigating, and preventing illicit financial activity across our global operations. You will leverage large datasets, analyze transactional patterns, and manage system alerts to safeguard the platform. This role involves developing robust SQL-based models, creating actionable dashboards (Mode/Databricks) to visualize financial crime risks, and collaborating closely with the Financial Crime Product and Compliance teams to enhance controls, reduce false positives, and ensure adherence to global regulatory standards.
Reporting to Director of Product (Fincrime) you will:
- Drive strategic decision-making by collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize business requirements and translate them into actionable dashboards and data-driven insights.
- Own and manage capacity planning for Financial Crime Operations, including the creation, reporting, and ongoing analysis of capacity plans versus actuals.
- Proactively identify and implement data-led improvements across the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) domain, including transaction monitoring and customer risk rating, by setting targets, assessing performance, and modelling various scenarios.
- Communicate complex findings effectively by presenting structured, data-driven results to non-technical business leaders, simplifying technical concepts for clear decision-making.
- Demonstrate holistic problem-solving by connecting disparate data sources to uncover underlying business questions and deliver comprehensive solutions.
- Exhibit a strong passion for learning and the ability to rapidly adopt new business concepts, analytical techniques, and technologies.
- Be an independent, curious, and proactive self-starter who takes initiative to drive projects forward.

What you bring to the table
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, or a related field;
- 4+ years experience in data analysis, analytics engineering, and/or data science roles, building data modeling workflows (using dbt, for example, or other data platform tooling) and analyzing large datasets to solve problems;
- Expert SQL skills; proficiency in Python preferable;
- Strong statistical knowledge;
- Expertise in visualization and surfacing insights using a BI platform (e.g. Mode, Tableau, Looker, Power BI, etc.);
- Proven ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects with great attention to detail;
- Ability to clearly communicate results and drive impact;
- Comfortable collaborating across functions to identify data analytics problems and execute solutions with technical rigor and thoughtful analysis.
