Salary: Grade 11, ranging from £33,673 - £37,563 per annum
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Contract: Two fixed-term opportunities available, with contracts ranging from two to three years
Closing date: 11th October 2026
This is an exciting opportunity to join Somerset Council's Children's Business Intelligence team at a pivotal time for the service. Working as part of a busy and supportive team, you'll play a key role in providing the data, insight and performance information that supports service improvement, performance management and informed decision-making across Children's Services. You'll contribute to important programmes and transformation activity, helping to shape how data is used to improve services and outcomes for children and young people across Somerset.
About the Role
As a Data Analyst within the Children's Business Intelligence team, you'll collect, analyse and report on performance data and key metrics to support a range of programmes and service areas. You'll work closely with colleagues, partners and stakeholders to provide accurate, timely insight that supports service delivery, reporting requirements, performance management and continuous improvement activity.
How You'll Make a Difference
- Collect, validate and analyse data from a range of sources to support performance reporting.
- Produce reports, dashboards and insights that help shape service decisions and improvements.
- Coordinate data submissions and ensure reporting requirements are met accurately and on time.
- Respond to information requests and provide expert advice on data and performance information.
- Identify opportunities to improve information systems, processes and data quality.
- Work closely with colleagues, schools, partners and external organisations to meet information needs.

What You'll Bring
- Experience working with performance management or business intelligence systems, ideally in a Local Government or other Public Sector organisation. The ideal candidate would have a good knowledge of some or all aspects of Children’s services such as Children’s Social Care, Education and SEND.
- Strong data analysis skills and the ability to interpret complex information and identify trends.
- Experience producing clear reports and presenting findings to different audiences. This will include good skills with PowerBI, Excel and ideally with SQL.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Confidence using databases, spreadsheets and reporting tools, with an understanding of data governance principles.

We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements to support a healthy work-life balance.
- You will be expected to work from County Hall, Taunton when required for meetings and to support specific tasks.
- This role is subject to a standard DBS check.
