Data and Automation Systems Builder
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data and Automation Systems Builder based in United Kingdom.
This role is designed for a technical builder who can turn ambiguous business needs into working data and automation systems. You will help build the infrastructure that connects operational data, dashboards, alerts, and automated workflows across the organization. Rather than focusing solely on traditional reporting, you will identify where processes break down and create systems that surface issues in real time. You will work closely with engineering, automation, and business teams to connect and improve the broader data ecosystem. The long-term vision is to help create an AI-powered data engine capable of answering natural-language questions and supporting automated, data-driven decisions. This is an environment that values experimentation, ownership, fast execution, and practical problem-solving over rigid processes. The role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys researching, building, testing, debugging, and independently taking solutions from idea to production.
Accountabilities
- Contribute to the development of an AI-powered data engine that enables natural-language data queries and supports automated operational decision-making.
- Design and build automated data pipelines, dashboards, and reporting systems using BI platforms such as Looker Studio or equivalent tools.
- Translate loosely defined business requirements into functional, end-to-end technical solutions without relying on detailed specifications.
- Build real-time alerts and automated triggers that identify process failures, deviations, bottlenecks, and operational risks.
- Surface stage-by-stage process events and timestamps across core platforms to identify where workflows slow down or become blocked.
- Develop and maintain workflow automations connecting raw data sources with reporting, monitoring, and alerting systems using tools such as n8n, Make, or custom scripts.
- Investigate and resolve data quality, integrity, and pipeline issues directly at their source.
- Use modern AI tools as a core part of the development workflow to accelerate research, coding, prototyping, debugging, and system development.
- Partner closely with engineering, automation, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions.
- Create lightweight, accessible documentation that enables non-technical managers to understand and use the systems independently.
- Continuously improve the reliability, scalability, and usability of the organization's data and automation ecosystem.
- Take ownership of projects from initial problem definition through development, deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Requirements
- Demonstrated experience working in a technical, data, automation, systems, or engineering-oriented role where you have built functional solutions rather than simply analyzed existing data.

- Hands-on proficiency with SQL and cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery or equivalent technologies.
- Strong experience with BI and dashboarding platforms such as Looker Studio or comparable tools.
- Practical experience with workflow automation platforms such as n8n, Make, or custom scripting solutions.
- Proven ability to build and deploy end-to-end tools, pipelines, automations, or production workflows from scratch.
- Comfortable working directly with business leaders and translating business needs into technical requirements without depending on formal specifications.
- Strong problem-solving, logical reasoning, and analytical skills, with the ability to break complex or ambiguous problems into actionable steps.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of outcomes, work independently, and push projects through to completion.
- Heavy, practical use of AI tools to accelerate development, write code, prototype systems, research solutions, and debug technical issues.
- Ability to adapt rapidly to new technologies, systems, tools, and business requirements.
- Comfortable receiving direct, constructive feedback and responding quickly without unnecessary friction.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Startup or high-growth environment experience is advantageous.
- Experience with AI agents, LLM APIs, advanced automation, or natural-language interfaces is a strong plus.
- Willingness to work full-time as an exclusive independent contractor.
Benefits
- Fully remote position with the flexibility to work from Poland as part of a global team.
- Full-time, exclusive independent contractor engagement.
- Flexible working hours, with partial overlap with US business hours in Pacific or Eastern Time for meetings and synchronous collaboration.

- Opportunity to work on an ambitious AI-powered data and automation vision rather than traditional static reporting.
- High degree of autonomy and ownership over the organization's data and automation ecosystem.
- Exposure to modern AI tools, automation platforms, cloud data technologies, and end-to-end systems development.
- Opportunity to work closely with engineering, automation, and business leaders in a fully remote environment.
- Fast-paced culture that values initiative, experimentation, rapid learning, and practical execution.
- Opportunity to build systems with direct operational impact across a global product and manufacturing environment.
