Data & BI Developer

Data & Insight team

Flannery is one of the UK’s largest plant hire businesses. We supply and operate machines on most of the country’s major construction and infrastructure projects, which generates a substantial amount of data across fleet, telematics, hire, transport, servicing, finance, and customer activity.

The Data & Insight team is small, in-house, and owns the whole chain — from getting data out of source systems to putting it in front of a director or a customer. We are also part of the commercial offer: we deliver secure, segregated reporting directly to our customers, so a meaningful share of the work is externally facing and genuinely visible.

Our ingestion layer is being rebuilt in Microsoft Fabric, our reporting is Power BI and Fabric, our applications are Power Apps and Power Automate, our integrations are APIs called from Fabric notebooks and Python, and there is an on-premise SQL estate underneath it all. The team is being rebuilt and grown, so you would arrive early enough to influence how it works.

What the role offers that most analyst jobs do not, is reach. You would work across the whole business rather than inside one part of it — sales and customers, finance, hire desk, transport, servicing, fleet, and telematics, training, and resourcing. Almost nobody here sees more than their own corner of the operation. You would see all of it, and the most valuable work this team does comes from noticing the connection between two things that neither department could have spotted on its own.

You would also work end to end on what you build: the data model, the reports, the applications around them, the integrations that feed them, and the conversations with the people who use them. There is no separate team that builds your ideas for you, and nobody sits between you and the person who needs the answer.

Role responsibilities

Reporting and analytics

  • Designing and building Power BI and Fabric semantic models and reports that other people depend on.
  • Delivering customer-facing reporting under row-level security, where getting the segregation right is not optional.
  • Writing and maintaining the SQL views that underpin the reporting estate.
  • Working directly with department heads and senior leadership to work out what they actually need, which is often not what they asked for.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Applications and automation

  • Building business applications in Power Apps that replace spreadsheets, paper, and email chains.
  • Designing Power Automate flows that take manual handling out of operational processes end to end.

Integration and data operations

  • Building and maintaining API integrations between our systems, in Fabric notebooks and scheduled Python.
  • Assessing new business software for whether its data is reachable, then designing the integration.
  • Data quality, master data, and the housekeeping that keeps the whole thing trustworthy.

What we are looking for

  • Around three years in a data, BI, or Power Platform role — as a guide rather than a threshold. What matters is what you have built and owned.
  • Strong Power BI — semantic modelling, DAX beyond the basics, and enough experience of a report going wrong to have opinions about how they should be built.
  • Confident SQL — writing and optimizing views and queries, and understanding what is expensive and why.
  • Real experience of at least one of Power Apps, Power Automate, or API integration work. We are not expecting all three.
  • The ability to work end to end — taking a vague business problem, working out what is actually needed, building it, and supporting it afterwards.
  • Stakeholder credibility — you can be put in a room with a department head or a customer and be trusted to come back with the right answer.
  • Curiosity about the business as a whole — the people who do best here are the ones who ask why servicing and the hire desk disagree about the same machine, rather than answering only the question in front of them.
  • Judgement about quality — knowing when something needs to be right and when it needs to be quick, and being honest about which one you have delivered.
