Data & Growth Engineer
Location: Central London (hybrid - 3 days a week in the office / client offices, the rest flexible)
Salary: Up to £45,000 depending on experience, plus performance bonus and potential equity/options
Perfect for someone who loves building and solving hard commercial problems - writing the SQL, building pipelines, and seeing their work land with real clients from day one.
About Elio
Elio is a data and strategic growth partner. We work with established businesses to build growth engines from their data - building the data foundations first, then the insight, analytics, strategy and automation on top.
This is a chance to join a small, entrepreneurial team working in commercial, high-impact settings, where the work spans client delivery and helping build new products and ventures of our own. It's an early, junior to mid level hire: you'd work directly with the founder and our other engineers, learn fast, and take real ownership of your work.
The role
We're looking for a Data & Growth Engineer who is genuinely hands-on and keen to build. You'll help build the data foundations our work rests on, turn messy client data into reliable analytics and insights, and grow into shipping solutions that move the needle for clients.
This is a hands-on, build-first role. You'll write the SQL and run the pipelines yourself, working closely alongside our other engineers and learning from them as you go. You won't own the commercial relationship (that sits with the commercial team), but you'll be trusted to represent your work in the room and, as you grow in confidence, speak directly with clients and stakeholders.

What you'll do
- Design and build data foundations - pipelines, models and warehousing - that client work depends on.
- Write clean, well-tested SQL / Python / JS and maintain good engineering practices (version control, documentation, reviews, CI).
- Contribute to the delivery of data projects - helping scope, prioritise and keep them on track - and grow into speaking to clients and stakeholders about the work.
- Turn data into insight: analytics, reporting and the groundwork for strategy and automation.
- Build and integrate AI-driven solutions where they genuinely add value.
- Help shape how a growing, entrepreneurial consulting firm delivers - processes, standards, and the stack - and contribute to new products and ventures as they take shape.
What we're looking for
Must-haves
- A real passion for building software and solving problems, and a drive to learn fast.
- Solid SQL and a good grasp of engineering fundamentals.
- Some hands-on experience with data lakes and a modern data platform - ideally Databricks and/or BigQuery (Snowflake also welcome).
- Good software engineering habits: Git/GitHub, branching, code review, clean commits.
- A self-starter who thrives in a small team, is happy to own their work, and can explain technical things clearly to non-technical people.
Nice-to-haves
- Cloud experience (Azure / GCP).
- Broader exposure to engineering architecture, e.g. full-stack systems or side projects you've built or deployed.
- Any hands-on experience with AI/ML or LLM-based tooling.
- Exposure to marketing/growth data (ads, CRM, CDP, first-party data).
- Experience being a technical point of contact for clients, or a consulting/agency background.
- A commercial, entrepreneurial streak - interest in how the work turns into products and outcomes.
