We are seeking a highly motivated and driven waste management professional to lead on a variety of waste data and compliance projects within the Contracts and Commercial Team.

As the role develops, the candidate will become a subject area expert in the fields that they are assigned such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Digital Waste Tracking (DWT) regulatory requirements. This will also include the ability to present complex waste data through data visualisation that allow for ease of interpretation for both management and educational purposes.

An early priority of the role is to set up a robust data collection and monitoring system allowing the council to accurately report collection and disposal costs of packaging materials covered under EPR.

Of equal importance, the post holder will also be required to lead on ensuring that the council is compliant with Digital Waste Tracking (DWT), not least but including the Cowley Road Waste Transfer Station and the council trade waste service.

Further to this, the successful candidate will:

  • Provide technical support bringing experience of managing, reporting and interpretation of waste data.
  • Act as a waste contamination champion by monitoring the PFI Contract waste rejection and sampling process for recycling materials.
  • Work with the wider Neighbourhood Services Team and PFI operational contractors Suez to reduce contamination found in recycling currently costing the Council in excess of £1m per year
  • Support our operational colleagues to understand and report on the profitability of trade waste services
  • Lead on handling Freedom of Information (FOI) requests for the team

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
