Lead Data Architect
Location: Farnborough (Hybrid)
Hours: Full Time, 37 Hours per Week
Security Clearance: Must be willing and eligible to obtain DV Clearance
The Role
As Lead Data Architect, you will own the end-to-end Data Fabric architecture, shaping the roadmap, governance, standards, and technical direction while working closely with engineering teams to ensure solutions are practical, deliverable, and operationally effective.
You will play a key role in unlocking the value of data, improving interoperability across systems, and enabling AI-driven insights through robust data governance, quality, accessibility, and integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the Data Fabric architecture strategy, roadmap, and technical standards.
- Lead the evolution of data integration, storage, processing, metadata, lineage, and governance capabilities.
- Establish architectural principles, reference patterns, and guardrails to support consistent delivery.
- Drive data interoperability through APIs, event-driven architectures, data-sharing patterns, and integration frameworks.
- Lead architecture governance and assurance activities across the platform.
- Oversee data modelling across conceptual, logical, and physical layers.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Data Fabric Engineers and Data Analysts.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align data capabilities with strategic business objectives.
- Champion the delivery of trusted, secure, and high-quality data to support advanced analytics and AI initiatives.

About You
Essential Experience
- Significant experience in Data Architecture, Data Platform Engineering, or a similar leadership role.
- Proven success owning and evolving enterprise data architectures within complex environments.
- Strong knowledge of data governance, metadata management, lineage, data quality, stewardship, and lifecycle management.
- Experience designing architectures across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Background delivering solutions within secure, mission-critical, or highly regulated environments.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams and providing architectural direction.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage audiences at all levels.
