Location - UK (remote)
Contract length - Initially until end of November 26, should be extended until at least mid 2027

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Data Architect to design, develop and govern enterprise-wide data architecture solutions that enable business growth, innovation and data-driven decision making. The successful candidate will play a key role in defining data standards, shaping data strategy and ensuring scalable, secure and high-performing data platforms across the organisation.

Working closely with business stakeholders, technology teams and leadership, you will create modern data architectures that support analytics, AI, reporting and operational requirements while ensuring compliance with governance and security standards.

Key Responsibilities

Data Architecture & Strategy

  • Define and maintain the enterprise data architecture roadmap.
  • Design conceptual, logical and physical data models across multiple business domains.
  • Establish data standards, frameworks and best practices.
  • Drive data architecture alignment with broader business and technology strategies.
  • Support the adoption of modern cloud-based data platforms and architectures.

Data Platform Design

  • Architect scalable data solutions leveraging cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS or GCP.
  • Design data warehouses, data lakes and lakehouse architectures.
  • Develop integration patterns for structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Ensure solutions support analytics, reporting, machine learning and AI initiatives.

Governance & Quality

  • Implement data governance frameworks, standards and controls.
  • Define data classification, retention and lifecycle management policies.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency and integrity across enterprise systems.
  • Support compliance with GDPR and information security requirements.

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with business leaders to understand current and future data needs.
  • Provide architectural guidance to engineering, analytics and project teams.
  • Present architecture recommendations and technical roadmaps to senior stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on enterprise data management practices.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Data Architect in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Strong expertise in data modelling methodologies and tools.
  • Extensive experience designing modern cloud data architectures.
  • Strong understanding of database technologies including SQL Server, PostgreSQL and NoSQL platforms.
  • Experience implementing data governance and data quality frameworks.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT design principles and data integration patterns.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with AI, Machine Learning and advanced analytics platforms.
  • Knowledge of data mesh and data fabric architectures.
  • Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications.
  • Experience in highly regulated industries.
