FDM Data Architect Opportunity
FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Data Architect to work for our client within the finance sector. This is initially a 12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London 2 days a week in London with travel to Manchester every fortnight (expenses paid).
We are supporting a major Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) transformation within a leading UK Banking organisation. The programme is focused on enabling Business Banking data products and services to consume trusted, governed, and scalable data from a modern cloud-based Enterprise Data Platform. The platform is being built using modern data technologies including Databricks, Snowflake and AWS, with data structured using a Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) framework.
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to define and govern the target-state architecture that enables Business Banking domains to consume, model and deliver data products from the Enterprise Data Platform.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end data architecture for Business Banking consumption on the Enterprise Data Platform.
- Define and govern Medallion Architecture patterns, ensuring optimal use of Bronze, Silver and Gold data layers.
- Design scalable data models, data products, integration patterns and consumption services for Business Banking use cases.
- Ensure architectural alignment between upstream data hydration workstreams and downstream Business Banking consumption requirements.
- Provide architecture oversight across Databricks, Snowflake and AWS environments.
- Define data lineage, metadata, master data, reference data and data quality standards.
- Embed Data Management Control requirements into architecture, design standards and engineering patterns.
- Review solution designs and ensure compliance with enterprise architecture and governance standards.
- Support delivery teams in resolving complex technical challenges.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, Product Owners and Engineering Leads to ensure consistency across the wider EDP programme.
- Present architecture decisions, risks and recommendations to governance forums and senior stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
