Data Architect

We’re supporting a leading technology consultancy with an opportunity for an experienced Data Architect to shape the architecture and data strategy behind high-profile government and commercial programmes.
This is a senior, client-facing role combining enterprise architecture, technical leadership, and hands-on problem-solving. You’ll help define how data is stored, integrated, migrated, and managed across complex environments, while guiding delivery teams from design through to implementation.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for:
- Defining data architecture and technical direction for major client projects.
- Developing data strategies, migration plans, integration approaches, and data models.
- Reviewing existing applications and systems to understand their structure, constraints, and opportunities.
- Setting architecture principles, standards, and guidelines for delivery teams.
- Designing solutions for structured and unstructured data, from microservices through to large-scale platforms.
- Advising on distributed data technologies and cloud-based solutions.
- Supporting technical governance and ensuring agreed architecture is delivered effectively.
- Working with stakeholders to communicate complex technical decisions clearly.
- Leading, mentoring, and developing engineers and architects.

What We’re Looking For
You’ll have a strong background in data architecture, software engineering, and technical leadership, with experience leading teams or senior technical professionals.
Relevant experience may include:
- Data strategy, migration, and integration.
- Azure and modern cloud data services.
- Big Data technologies and distributed systems.
- Open-source and commercial data platforms.
- Microservices architecture and REST services.
- Data modelling and enterprise architecture.
- Designing for both structured and unstructured data.
- Understanding non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, resilience, and security.
- Java, Scala, or Python, with the ability to review code and get hands-on where required.
- Designing solutions across national infrastructure or other highly regulated environments.

You’ll also need to be confident working with clients and senior stakeholders, presenting architectural recommendations and making sound technical decisions in complex delivery environments.
Consultancy experience would be useful, but candidates who have delivered major technology programmes with external partners or customers will also be considered.
Please note: Any offer will be subject to successful BPSS and SC clearance. This typically requires five years of continuous UK address history, with no periods of 30 consecutive days or more spent outside the UK, and eligibility to hold a British passport without dual nationality at the point of application. The role may also require travel to client and partner sites.
