Your new company
You'll be joining a secure defence programme delivering a central AWS data lake and integration capability across multiple source systems and security classifications. Due to the nature of the programme, applicants must already hold active DV clearance and meet the client's security and nationality requirements.
Your new role
As the Data Architect, you will act as the design authority for the end-to-end data architecture, covering data ingestion, integration, transformation, governance and security. You will be responsible for:
- Defining the target architecture and design principles for a secure AWS data lake
- Designing secure integration patterns across multiple classifications and MOD operating environments
- Defining conceptual, logical and physical data models
- Specifying Apache NiFi architecture patterns, flow standards and reusable ingestion components
- Designing REST API, SOAP, file-based, batch, legacy and bespoke integrations
- Defining governance, metadata, lineage, auditability and data quality requirements
- Producing High-Level Designs, design principles, Architecture Decision Records and assurance documentation
- Defining non-functional requirements covering security, performance, scalability, resilience and observability
- Supporting accreditation, assurance and security reviews
- Providing technical governance throughout build, test, assurance and handover

What you'll need to succeed
You will need:
- Active DV clearance
- Experience delivering data architecture within defence, secure government or a similarly complex environment
- Strong experience designing secure AWS data platforms and data lake architectures
- Knowledge of AWS security, IAM, networking, storage and relevant data services
- Extensive experience with Apache NiFi architecture, flow design and governance
- Experience designing REST, SOAP, file, batch, legacy and bespoke integrations
- Knowledge of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data, including CSV, XML, JSON, Parquet and Avro
- Experience designing solutions across multiple security classifications
- Strong knowledge of data governance, lineage, metadata, data quality, access control and auditability
- Strong stakeholder engagement, documentation and technical leadership skills
- Experience of MOD secure data engineering across multiple classifications
Experience with AWS certification, TOGAF, MODAF, NCSC-aligned security principles, cross-domain transfer solutions, data catalogues, data mesh, data fabric or lakehouse environments would be beneficial.

You'll have the opportunity to act as the design authority for a high-profile secure data programme, shaping a complex AWS data lake and integration architecture from design through to delivery. The role offers hybrid working, with 2-3 days per week onsite in either London or Corsham.
