About the Role
Amber Labs is looking for an experienced Data Architect to join our growing team, supporting the design and delivery of secure, scalable and modern cloud solutions across complex technology environments.
This role will suit an architect with strong AWS experience, a solid understanding of cloud-native architecture and a track record of providing technical leadership across engineering, DevOps and data teams.
You will play a key role in defining architecture standards, supporting cloud transformation and modernisation, and ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, cost-effective and aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Solution Design
- Design scalable, secure and highly available architectures using AWS services including EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, IAM, VPC and CloudFront.
- Select appropriate AWS services based on business requirements, performance, security and cost considerations.
- Design modern cloud solutions using microservices, serverless, APIs and event-driven architectures.
Architecture Governance & Standards
- Define and enforce cloud architecture principles, patterns, standards and best practices.
- Ensure solutions align with security frameworks, compliance requirements, IAM principles and the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
- Review solution designs and provide architectural assurance throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical direction and leadership to engineering teams, developers, DevOps engineers and data specialists.
- Support teams through complex implementation and architectural challenges.
- Act as a technical authority and provide guidance on architectural decisions and trade-offs.
Security & Compliance
- Design and implement security controls covering IAM, encryption, network segmentation, monitoring and threat detection.
- Ensure AWS solutions meet relevant regulatory and security requirements, including GDPR, ISO 27001 and PCI DSS where applicable.
- Embed security and compliance considerations throughout the architecture and delivery lifecycle.
Infrastructure as Code
- Lead and promote the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
- Experience with technologies such as Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
- Develop and standardise reusable templates and modules to enable consistent and repeatable deployments across environments.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
