Data Architect – Contract
London - 3 days per week - INSIDE IR35
Omnis Partners is working with a leading organisation to appoint a senior Data Architect with strong experience across metadata, governance and enterprise data architecture.
The role will suit an experienced architect who is comfortable operating across strategy, design and delivery. You will work closely with engineering teams, data owners and senior stakeholders to shape how metadata is structured, governed, connected and discovered across a large and complex data environment.
A background in financial services, asset management, market data or fund reporting would be highly beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the architecture for the organisation’s metadata landscape, connecting a central discovery capability with domain-specific metadata catalogues.
- Partner with individual data domains to define metadata models that accurately reflect how information is structured, managed and consumed.
- Define the approach to metadata creation and enrichment, including which metadata should be automatically harvested, enhanced or drafted using LLMs, reviewed by data stewards or maintained manually.
- Shape the semantic architecture across the organisation, including common business definitions, department-level mappings, entity resolution and knowledge graph design.
- Establish standards for metadata quality, data ownership, stewardship, sensitivity classification and wider governance.
- Provide architectural direction to engineering teams, reviewing integration designs and ensuring multiple workstreams remain aligned to the agreed architecture.
- Lead and contribute to architecture reviews, stakeholder workshops and working sessions, while producing clear written responses and design documentation.
- Work alongside related security, entitlement and governance workstreams to ensure the metadata architecture fits within the wider data landscape.
- Support the development of phased implementation plans, delivery estimates and the data-readiness requirements needed before implementation begins.

Required Experience
- 8+ years’ experience working within data architecture, data platforms or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience specialising in metadata management, data governance or enterprise data cataloguing across a large and diverse data estate.
- Strong architectural knowledge of enterprise data catalogue platforms such as DataHub, OpenMetadata, Collibra or comparable technologies. Understanding the underlying architectural principles is more important than experience with a specific vendor.
- Strong understanding of metadata and lineage standards, including OpenLineage, Open Data Contract Standard or similar frameworks.
- Experience integrating metadata platforms with proprietary internal metadata structures, data models and event models.
- Proven experience designing federated or hub-and-spoke metadata architectures.
- Strong knowledge of data governance operating models, including ownership, stewardship, sensitivity classification and metadata quality measurement.
- Experience designing semantic layers, business glossaries and concept registries.
- Understanding of entity resolution and knowledge graph modelling, together with architecture-level knowledge of graph database technologies.
- Strong consulting and stakeholder-management skills, with experience facilitating workshops, balancing competing requirements and clearly communicating architectural decisions.
- Ability to independently produce high-quality, client-ready architecture documentation and formal written design responses.

Additional Experience
The following experience would be advantageous:
- Knowledge of financial-services ontologies such as FIBO, including an understanding of their practical strengths and limitations.
- Experience using semantic search and embeddings to improve metadata discovery.
- Previous experience within asset management, market data or fund reporting environments.
- Experience working within highly regulated or on-premise technology environments.
- Knowledge of data residency, auditability and licence-based data entitlement requirements.
- Experience designing metadata and discovery capabilities that can be consumed by AI agents or LLM-powered applications.
- Exposure to pre-sales, technical discovery or solution architecture.
- Experience joining an existing programme and taking ownership of architecture already in progress.
