Data Architect

Location: London, UK
Work setup: 4 days onsite/week
Job Type: Contract

Role Description:

We are seeking a Data Architect to own the data model underpinning an enterprise Minimum Viable Bank calibration engine. The candidate will define the common Function ID taxonomy and the crosswalk that maps critical business service hierarchies, platform and hub structures, and legacy identifiers onto a single model the calibration engine can key on. This work sets the foundation for the entire pilot and is delivered in the opening weeks of the engagement.

The role requires working directly with client data owners across multiple operational resilience and impact assessment source systems to establish what each source holds, where they disagree, and which is authoritative at field level. The individual will design the curated data layer covering functions, applications, dependencies, measures and provenance, ensuring every record carries source, date, owner and confidence so that any output can be traced back to an underlying document and an accountable person. Record treatment rules for duplicates, splits, merges and orphans, and the staged-to-curated validation gate, are also owned by this role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The candidate will design for scale from the outset, so that the enterprise rollout onto the client's data mesh platform is an extension of the pilot architecture rather than a rebuild, including domain registration, certification, entitlement and column-level lineage. Strong stakeholder skills are essential, as the individual will frequently be the person deciding which source of truth prevails where assessments conflict.
