Data Architect
Salary: Up to £80k + bonus & benefits
Location: Flexible / Hybrid
We are recruiting for an experienced Data Architect to join a technology-led organisation undergoing a significant period of data, cloud and platform transformation.
This is a senior architecture role with responsibility for defining and evolving the organisation’s enterprise-wide data architecture, ensuring data is scalable, secure, consistent and fit for purpose across operational, analytical and customer-facing use cases.
The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping modern data platforms, supporting large-scale data migration and establishing architecture standards that enable future capabilities across reporting, analytics, AI and machine learning.
The role
You will be responsible for:
- Defining enterprise data architecture principles, standards and strategic roadmaps
- Designing and maintaining conceptual, logical and physical data models
- Shaping modern cloud-based data platforms and integration architecture
- Designing solutions using Databricks as a core part of the data platform
- Supporting batch, streaming, event-driven, medallion and big data architecture patterns
- Establishing architectural guardrails for large-scale migration of customer data from legacy platforms to modern cloud environments
- Reviewing solution designs to ensure scalability, reusability, security and architectural alignment
- Reducing duplication and technical debt across the data landscape
- Working closely with Data Governance around metadata, lineage, data quality, privacy and compliance
- Supporting governance capabilities within Databricks Unity Catalog
- Providing technical direction and mentoring to data and engineering teams
- Evaluating emerging technologies and helping shape future data capabilities

What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone with strong experience operating at enterprise Data Architect level, ideally within a complex transformation environment.
You should have:
- Strong enterprise data architecture experience
- Databricks experience – essential
- Strong experience with Azure data technologies
- Advanced conceptual, logical and physical data modelling experience
- Experience designing modern lakehouse / medallion architectures
- Knowledge of batch, streaming and event-driven integration patterns
- Experience delivering significant data migration, ideally from legacy or bespoke systems into modern cloud platforms
- Strong understanding of data governance, metadata, lineage and data quality
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience influencing architecture and engineering teams
