Data Business Analyst
£45,000 - £55,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 6A)
Manchester city centre - in this role you’ll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home and the office when required for workshops, team meetings and events (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

About the Role
We’re reshaping our Digital, Technology and Data function for the future, creating new opportunities, strengthening our capability, and building clearer, more resilient ways of working so we can deliver even better services for our Co-op, our colleagues, members and customers.
We're looking for a Data Business Analyst to join our Data & AI team and help us turn business challenges into data-driven solutions. Working within our Commercial, Pricing, Range and Promotions domain, you'll work closely with business stakeholders to understand how data is used today, identify opportunities for improvement, and translate business needs into clear requirements that enable our technical teams to deliver valuable data products, reporting and insights.

We've recently built a new enterprise data platform and are now bringing together data from across the organisation to unlock greater value and insight. This role is at the heart of that journey. You'll help shape some of our most important commercial data products, working with teams across pricing, promotions, finance and technology to solve complex problems, improve ways of working and help deliver meaningful business outcomes. It's a great opportunity to influence how data is used across Co-op while developing your expertise in a collaborative and forward-looking data environment.

What you’ll do
- Work with stakeholders across Commercial, Pricing, Promotions and Finance teams to understand business challenges, objectives and data needs
- Research and document current processes, reporting, data flows and decision-making activities
- Facilitate workshops, stakeholder interviews and user journey mapping sessions to gather and refine requirements
- Define future requirements, outcomes and opportunities for improvement, helping teams understand the value of proposed changes
- Translate business requirements into clear, detailed specifications that can be delivered by Data Engineering, Business Intelligence and other technical teams
- Support planning, estimation and prioritisation activities, working closely with Product Managers and delivery teams
- Collaborate with colleagues across Data & AI, including Data Engineering, Data Governance, Data Quality and SAP teams, to ensure solutions meet business needs
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of business analysis practices, tools and ways of working across the wider team
What you’ll bring
We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:
- Significant experience in a Business Analyst, Data Business Analyst or similar role, working on data, reporting or technology initiatives
- Strong requirements gathering, stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation skills, with the ability to work confidently with both business and technical audiences
- Experience mapping business processes, user journeys and data flows, and translating findings into clear documentation and requirements
- A strong understanding of data and analytics environments, with the ability to interpret how data is captured, transformed and used to support business decisions
- Experience working with SAP data and an understanding of how business requirements translate into SAP data structures and processes
- Excellent communication, questioning and structured research skills, with the ability to bring clarity to complex or ambiguous problems
- Proficiency in tools such as Excel, PowerPoint and process mapping software, with experience working in agile or multidisciplinary delivery environments
