Senior Data Centre Architect (Payments Infrastructure)
Location: London (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Permanent
The Opportunity
We are supporting a major payments infrastructure programme and are seeking experienced Data Centre Architects to join a high-performing team responsible for the design and delivery of critical on-premise environments supporting payment processing platforms.
This is an opportunity to work on large-scale, business-critical infrastructure within a highly regulated environment, helping to shape the architecture, resilience, and operational readiness of complex payment systems. Successful candidates will work closely with stakeholders across architecture, engineering, infrastructure, operations, and delivery teams to develop robust and scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and technical design of enterprise-scale on-premise data centre environments.
- Develop infrastructure solutions that deliver high availability, resilience, security, and operational efficiency.
- Define network connectivity, routing, and integration architectures across complex technology landscapes.
- Perform interface mapping and dependency analysis between applications, infrastructure, and external platforms.
- Support application deployment planning and infrastructure readiness activities.
- Produce architecture artefacts, technical designs, and implementation documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to ensure successful solution delivery.
- Contribute to architecture governance, design reviews, and technical decision-making processes.
- Support business continuity, disaster recovery, and service resilience initiatives.

Required Experience
- Proven experience in data centre architecture and infrastructure design.
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking, routing, and connectivity principles.
- Experience delivering complex integration and interface design solutions.
- Knowledge of application deployment across enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Expertise in resilience engineering, disaster recovery, and high-availability architectures.
- Experience producing detailed technical architecture documentation.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively within large, complex, and regulated organisations.

Highly Desirable Experience
- Payments, transaction banking, or financial services infrastructure.
- Card scheme environments, including Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.
- UK payments infrastructure such as Vocalink, Faster Payments, BACS, or CHAPS.
- Mission-critical transaction processing platforms.
- Large-scale infrastructure transformation or data centre modernisation programmes.
- Experience working within highly regulated environments.
