Data Centre Engineer

Location: Basingstoke

Salary: £35,000 – £44,000

Role Type: Permanent / Site-based

Shift Pattern: 12-hour continental shift pattern, 14 shifts per 28-day cycle

The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Data Centre Engineer to join a specialist technology and infrastructure services organisation, working within a prestigious client data centre environment.

The role is highly customer-focused and will involve delivering IMACD (Installs, Moves, Adds, Changes & Decommissions) and incident resolution services across workplace technology and data centre operational environments.

The position will cover everything from day-to-day patching and fault finding through to large-scale equipment refreshes, installations, decommissions, and equipment moves.

The successful candidate will work within a 24/7/365 operational environment, reporting to the local Service Delivery Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver IMACD and incident resolution activities across data centre environments.
  • Carry out patching, fault finding, and infrastructure alterations.
  • Install, move, and decommission network hardware and structured cabling.
  • Support large-scale equipment and device refresh projects.
  • Manage change control and incident resolution processes.
  • Maintain accurate asset records and tracking systems.
  • Supervise and escort third-party vendors on site.
  • Ensure all works comply with Health & Safety requirements.
  • Follow client, manufacturer, and internal quality standards.
  • Work in accordance with approved client and service delivery processes.
  • Provide a high level of customer service throughout all activities.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working within data centres or other high-risk environments.
  • Experience with structured cabling and network infrastructure.
  • Sound understanding of infrastructure technologies and networking concepts.
  • Experience with installations, decommissions, moves, and patching.
  • Competent using MS Office and Helpdesk/Service Delivery applications.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively at all levels.
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel where required.
  • Flexible approach to working within a 24/7 shift environment.
