Mission

Install, configure, maintain, and support the data center infrastructure that powers Groq’s AI inference cloud. As a Data Center Technician, you will own day-to-day hands-on operations within the data center, helping ensure our compute and network infrastructure operates reliably and is ready to scale.

Location: Slough, England, UK

Responsibilities & Opportunities In This Role

As a Data Center Technician, you will serve as a Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for daily operations within the data center. You will lead hands-on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of compute and network infrastructure supporting Groq’s AI workloads.

  • Receive, unpack, move, and install servers and other equipment on the data center floor.
  • Install, cable, and maintain servers, network switches, and power distribution units (PDUs) in racks.
  • Perform hardware-level bring-up and testing using Linux command-line tools.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and asset accountability for data center equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues involving rack, node, cabling, and hardware failures.
  • Run scripts and diagnostic tools to identify and repair rack cabling and other hardware issues.
  • Create, update, and resolve tickets in Groq’s ticketing system to maintain clear records of operational work.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting 24/7 data center operations.
  • Execute final testing and sign-off for newly built racks.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on data center upgrades, deployments, and expansions.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including diagrams, procedures, and operational runbooks.
  • Execute work in accordance with data center standards, policies, and procedures while maintaining a high bar for reliability and operational consistency.

Ideal Candidates Have/are

  • 2+ years of experience in data center operations or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, and network devices.
  • Hands-on experience installing, cabling, maintaining, and troubleshooting server and network hardware.
  • Intermediate Linux skills and comfort working from the command line.
  • Advanced fiber optic cabling skills.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
  • Experience with data center management software, such as DCIM or BMS.
  • Familiarity with virtualization and container orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain accurate operational and asset records.
  • Able to prioritize and execute effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Curious and motivated to continuously improve your knowledge of data center infrastructure and operations.
  • Familiarity with tools such as MacBooks, Slack, and Google Workspace.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
