Data Centre Engineering Operations Technician

Contract: 12 Months

Location: Heathrow

Rate: Up to £250 per day

Location: On-site – Data Centre Environment

The Role

We are looking for a hands-on Data Centre Engineering Operations Technician to support the operation and maintenance of a large-scale, mission-critical data centre environment.

You will be responsible for maintaining the electrical, mechanical and critical infrastructure that keeps the facility operational, working within an environment where availability, safety and reliability are paramount.

This is a practical, site-based engineering position suited to someone with experience across electrical and mechanical maintenance, critical facilities, data centres or similarly high-availability environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor and maintain critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure within the data centre.
  • Troubleshoot facility and rack-level incidents within agreed operational SLAs.
  • Perform planned and preventative maintenance across critical infrastructure.
  • Complete maintenance activities including HVAC servicing, filter changes, rack power installations, PDU replacements and ATS replacements.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment including UPS systems, switchgear, circuit breakers, ATS, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC, VFDs and transformers.
  • Carry out routine facility rounds and record operational readings including temperatures, voltages, currents and equipment status.
  • Investigate equipment failures and undertake root cause analysis, identifying appropriate corrective actions.
  • Respond to alarms, incidents and infrastructure issues to maintain availability of mission-critical systems.
  • Use CMMS systems to manage maintenance workflows, work orders and spare-parts inventory.
  • Provide technical support to Data Centre Operations teams.
  • Supervise third-party contractors carrying out servicing and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with site procedures, operational standards and SLAs.
  • Participate in an on-call rota, responding to out-of-hours incidents when required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve facility reliability, efficiency and operational performance.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
