Job Title
This is a supervisory role for a data centre engineer who already knows the floor - MACs, structured cabling, rack and stack - and is ready to run the crew rather than just be on it. An international technology and connectivity organisation needs someone to own day-to-day delivery inside a high-performance data centre for a critical client.
About the opportunity
You will work alongside the Data Centre Manager and Service Delivery Manager, supervising Moves, Adds & Changes and BAU activity across data centre and campus environments. You will allocate daily workloads, supervise third-party contractors, keep SLAs met, and hold the standard on quality, safety and documentation. It suits someone who wants accountability for a live client environment, not another pair of hands.
What you will be doing
- Supervise day-to-day data centre operations and BAU delivery to agreed client standards
- Deliver and oversee Moves, Adds & Changes across data centre and campus environments
- Coordinate installations, decommissioning, equipment movements, racking, stacking and structured cabling
- Allocate daily workloads and coordinate engineering resources against agreed timescales
- Supervise copper and fibre installation, patching, testing and fault-finding
- Manage third-party contractors on site and ensure they follow site procedures and client standards
- Monitor service requests and tickets so SLAs are met and closed within timescale
- Support incident management, escalation and change control processes
- Maintain accurate asset records, cabling records, inventories and data centre documentation
- Act as a day-to-day operational contact for the client and attend operational reviews
- Hold Health & Safety, quality and security standards across all engineering activity

What you will need
- Proven experience working within a data centre environment
- Relevant experience in a data centre MAC environment
- Extensive structured cabling installation, testing and fault-finding experience
- Strong knowledge of copper and fibre cabling standards and data centre infrastructure
- Previous experience supervising engineering activities and allocating workloads
- Experience managing or supervising third-party contractors and vendors
- Solid understanding of asset management and data centre documentation
- Experience using ticketing, service management or work-order systems
- Understanding of change control, incident management and service delivery
- Strong organisation, prioritisation and problem solving; excellent communication
- Ability to work within a highly controlled, operationally critical environment
- Previous experience in a similar data centre supervisory or senior engineering role

Nice to have
- Banking, financial services or large enterprise data centre experience
- CompTIA Server+, Network+, CCNA or ITIL
- BICSI, CDCTP or CDCMP data centre or cabling certification
- DCIM tools; ServiceNow, Remedy or similar service management platforms
- Server infrastructure and networking knowledge; server installation and racking
- Experience supervising major data centre infrastructure projects
- Experience coordinating facilities providers and infrastructure teams
Working pattern
Full-time and permanent, Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00, site-based in Manchester.
