Exciting Opportunity at Middlesbrough Football Club
This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly established Data & Analytics department at Middlesbrough Football Club.
We are looking for a talented and motivated Data Engineer to help build and develop the Club's modern data platform. Working closely with the Head of Data, you will play a key role in developing scalable data solutions that support decision-making across football and business operations.
This position offers the opportunity to work with a wide range of data sources and technologies while helping shape the Club's approach to data engineering, governance and analytics.
The Role:
- Develop, maintain and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines from internal and external systems into the Club's central cloud data platform.
- Support the development and maintenance of a modern data Lakehouse architecture using Microsoft Fabric and Azure technologies.
- Design and implement efficient data models, databases and schemas to support reporting, analytics and future machine learning initiatives.
- Ensure data engineering solutions are secure, reliable and compliant with GDPR and organisational data governance policies.
- Support the migration of legacy reporting and data solutions into the Club's modern data platform.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and improve data pipelines to ensure high levels of performance and reliability.
- Work closely with analysts and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver data solutions that meet business needs.
- Contribute to the development of engineering standards, documentation and best practices across the department.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of semantic models used for reporting and self-service analytics.
- Support data quality, validation and testing processes to ensure trusted and accurate data is available across the organisation.
- Stay up to date with developments in Microsoft Fabric, Azure and modern data engineering practices.

About The Candidate

CANDIDATES SHOULD:
- At least 3+ years of experience in a Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering or similar technical role.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure and/or Microsoft Fabric.
- Strong SQL skills and experience writing efficient, maintainable queries.
- Experience using Python for API development, data transformation, automation or data engineering workloads.
- Experience building and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts and modern data lake architectures.
- Knowledge of dimensional modelling techniques, including Star Schema and Snowflake Schema design.
- Experience working with Git version control.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
