Description
BREEDON GROUP PLC is a leading construction materials group operating from over 400 sites across the UK, Ireland and US.
We are growing! At Breedon we have an opportunity to join our Data & Analytics Team with an exciting plan and long-term vision. We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer, with skills in Microsoft Azure, Databricks and SQL, to contribute to the design, build and deployment of our Azure data platform in line with our enterprise architecture.
We are well on our way towards being a data led organisation, we have identified the need for an individual to help accelerate the migration of data to our new Azure data platform which will enable our ambitions to become a data driven business.
Key Responsibilities
- Support in the implementation of the data platform strategy and architecture that aligns with business objectives and building robust data pipelines.
- Provision of a platform for analysts, data scientists and engineers, providing them with the data and an environment from which they can fulfil their roles.
- Transforming the way we work, making us more effective, efficient and profitable for the future.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Experience and knowledge:
- Experience of implementing and working with an Azure analytical platform including Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, PySpark, SQL, Python, and Azure DevOps.
- Strong foundation in data modelling and data warehousing concepts (medallion architecture, facts and dimensions).
- Experience using DevOps practices to establish standards for source control, branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, testing, and release management.
- Familiar with CI/CD processes for data pipelines and platform components.
- Experience in technical documentation of migration processes, data mappings, data quality checks, and testing outcomes.
- Ability to work closely with business stakeholders, translating business and technical requirements into effective data transformation and modelling solutions.
- Working knowledge of APIs (REST/SOAP) and common integration patterns (desirable)
- Experience working with semi-structured data formats such as JSON and XML (desirable)
