Data Engineer (Power BI Specialist)
About the Role
We are supporting a large-scale data transformation programme and are seeking a Data Engineer (Power BI Specialist) to join the team on either a permanent or contract basis.
This role is focused on the semantic and reporting layer, ensuring that Power BI datasets, semantic models and reports are well structured, scalable and aligned to trusted upstream data sources. You will work closely with Data Engineers, Business Analysts and key stakeholders to deliver high-quality reporting solutions while promoting best practice across data governance and reporting standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Analyse, maintain and optimise Power BI datasets, semantic models and reports.
- Refactor reporting solutions to consume curated and governed upstream data sources.
- Ensure business logic is implemented within the data platform rather than embedded within reporting solutions.
- Validate report functionality, refresh processes and DAX measures following data model changes.
- Perform regression testing, data validation and reconciliation activities.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts and Data Engineers to accurately interpret and implement business requirements.
- Promote Power BI governance standards, model design best practices and reporting consistency.
- Support the delivery of reliable, scalable and high-performing reporting solutions.

Required Skills and Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Power BI, including:
- Semantic Models
- Datasets
- DAX Measures
- Report Development and Optimisation
- Solid understanding of data modelling and relational database concepts.
- Experience working with SQL-based data sources.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale or public-sector reporting environments.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience performing testing, validation and data reconciliation activities.

Desirable Skills and Experience
- Exposure to Palantir Foundry environments.
- Experience working within government, public sector or highly regulated organisations.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted tools such as Power BI Copilot.
- Experience supporting data transformation or modernisation programmes.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented Power BI specialist with a strong understanding of data modelling, reporting best practices and stakeholder engagement. You will be comfortable working in complex environments, ensuring reporting solutions are accurate, scalable and aligned to enterprise data standards.
