Job Title: Data Engineer
Location: London, UK (Hybrid)
Contract Length: 4 Months (Start Date ASAP)
Remuneration: £50.00 Hourly Rate
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a high-impact data team supporting critical product and analytics initiatives. This role focuses on building, maintaining, and optimising large-scale data pipelines while ensuring data quality, reliability, and scalability across multiple datasets.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, test, and maintain batch ETL pipelines following established engineering standards.
- Implement enhancements to existing data pipelines, including schema updates and historical backfills.
- Write, optimise, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries against large-scale datasets.
- Investigate and resolve data quality issues identified through monitoring or stakeholder feedback.
- Develop and maintain data quality checks, automated tests, and pipeline documentation.
- Support exploratory analysis and proof-of-concept work as required.
- Participate in code reviews and follow best practices for version control, deployment, and change management.
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and engineering stakeholders to deliver defined requirements.

Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience building production-grade data pipelines.
- Strong SQL skills, including performance tuning and optimisation of large datasets.
- Professional experience using Python for data transformation and pipeline orchestration.
- Experience with distributed data processing technologies such as Presto, Spark, Hive, or similar.
- Experience working with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or similar.
- Comfortable working within Git-based development environments and code review workflows.

Nice to Have
- Experience with data modelling for analytics (dimensional modelling or wide-table designs).
- Experience building dashboards and working with BI tools.
- Knowledge of data quality frameworks and pipeline observability practices.
