Data & AI Engineer
Manchester (hybrid, 3 days in the office) | £45,000 to £60,000 DOE | Permanent
We're working with a handful of clients right now who all want the same kind of person: someone who can build things with data and actually get them into production. Pipelines, platforms, integrations, and increasingly AI agents on top of all of it.
If you're a data engineer who's been eyeing up the AI side, or you've been building agents and want a proper engineering environment to do it in, this is worth a conversation.
What you'd be doing
Depending on which of our clients is the right fit, that could look like:
- Building and operationalising ETL/ELT pipelines, data models and APIs for a long-standing financial services client, with the documentation and stakeholder comms to match
- Designing a modern Azure data platform from the ground up. Microsoft Fabric, ADF, medallion architecture, master data management, and modelling data so the business can actually self-serve through Copilot
- Standing up a brand new AI function. Greenfield, no legacy estate, building agents and automations across Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry and Claude, taking POCs through to production

What we're looking for
The core is the same across all of them:
- Solid hands-on data or software engineering experience, not just prototyping
- Strong SQL and Python
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs and integration patterns
- Comfort with cloud, ideally Azure (ADF, ADLS, Azure SQL, Key Vault, Event Hubs, Function Apps)
- Genuinely good written communication. Every one of these clients cares about documentation and being able to explain a decision
- The judgement to own a piece of delivery end to end and defend the calls you made
Then at least one of:
- Data platform: Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouses, Warehouses, Pipelines), Synapse, Delta Lake, medallion architecture, MDM and data quality frameworks
- Integration and pipelines: ETL/ELT tooling, warehousing, data migration, data quality and traceability, Spark or PL/SQL, orchestration tooling
- AI and automation: LLMs in production, RAG and retrieval design, prompt orchestration, eval sets and guardrails, Copilot Studio, Power Automate and Dataverse, Azure AI Foundry

Nice to have
- DevOps and CI/CD with Git and Azure DevOps
- Streaming and event-driven patterns (Event Hubs, Kafka)
- Data governance and cataloguing (Purview)
- Experience in fast-paced commercial or high-volume operational environments.
The details
- Permanent, Manchester based, 3 days a week in the office with some flex
- Salaries between £45,000 and £60,000 depending on the role and your experience
- Starts ranging from immediate to September
- You'll need to be Manchester based with the right to work here already. No sponsorship available
