Data Engineer

Location: London, UK (100% Onsite)
Contract: Inside IR35 Contract

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering scalable, cloud-based data solutions. The successful candidate will design, build, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines while ensuring high availability, security, and performance across modern cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable end-to-end data pipelines.
  • Build and optimize cloud-native data engineering solutions.
  • Develop robust, maintainable, and secure Python-based applications.
  • Design and implement ETL/ELT pipelines for large-scale data processing.
  • Develop automated testing including unit, integration, end-to-end, and performance tests.
  • Optimize data storage, processing, and query performance.
  • Implement scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available architectures.
  • Work with event-driven systems, messaging platforms, and streaming technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable data products.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and provide ongoing production support.
  • Mentor team members by promoting engineering best practices and coding standards.
  • Engage with stakeholders to prioritize work and deliver business-critical solutions.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven commercial experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Cloud services.
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and modern data engineering solutions.
  • Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud-based architectures.
  • Experience working with large-scale data processing and optimization.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architecture, data streaming, and messaging technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, RabbitMQ, or similar).
  • Experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience within Banking, Financial Services, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of Data Governance frameworks.
  • Experience with incremental data processing and data versioning.
  • Understanding of REST APIs and modern web technologies.
