The Opportunity
This role sits at the heart of a growing Data & Analytics function, taking ownership of an Azure Databricks Lakehouse platform built on Delta Lake and Medallion Architecture principles. You'll work across the entire data lifecycle, helping transform raw operational data into actionable business insights.
The environment includes data from Azure SQL, MongoDB and a range of SaaS platforms, creating interesting challenges around ingestion, modelling, governance and analytics delivery.
What You'll Be Doing
Data Engineering & Lakehouse Development
- Design, develop and evolve a Databricks Lakehouse platform using Medallion Architecture principles.
- Build and maintain batch and streaming data pipelines.
- Develop robust ingestion frameworks for structured and semi-structured data sources.
- Implement incremental and CDC data processing patterns.
- Optimise Databricks workloads for performance, scalability and cost efficiency.
- Drive best practice around Delta Lake, Auto Loader and modern data engineering standards.

- Own and develop Unity Catalog governance capabilities.
- Implement data access controls and secure data management practices.
- Maintain data lineage, auditability and compliance standards.
- Support multi-tenant data environments and governance frameworks.
CI/CD & Platform Engineering
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Databricks deployments.
- Automate environment promotion and deployment processes.
- Support Git-based development practices and code review processes.
- Improve platform reliability and operational efficiency.
Analytics & Dashboard Delivery
- Develop Gold-layer analytical models and reusable business metrics.
- Build and maintain dashboards that provide meaningful business insights.
- Ensure data quality, reliability and reporting accuracy.
- Work directly with stakeholders to define KPIs and reporting requirements.
- Create trusted datasets and reporting solutions that support decision-making across the business.

We're looking for a strong Data Engineer who combines technical excellence with an understanding of how data supports business outcomes.
Essential
- Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks.
- Strong knowledge of Delta Lake, Spark and SQL.
- Commercial Python development experience.
- Experience building and maintaining modern data pipelines.
- CI/CD experience within data platforms.
- Strong data modelling and transformation skills.
- Experience developing BI dashboards and reporting solutions.
- Knowledge of data quality frameworks and testing practices.
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and object storage solutions.
Desirable
- Unity Catalog experience.
- Azure Data Factory experience.
- Experience with MongoDB or document-based data sources.
- Data governance and security expertise.
- Great Expectations or similar data quality tooling.
- SaaS platform integrations.
- FinOps or cloud cost optimisation experience.
- Experience working within SaaS or multi-tenant environments.
