Location
Our Head Office department is in the heart of Piccadilly and occupies the 5th & 6th floor of our beautiful flagship store. This central London location offers so much to explore including restaurants, bars, cultural sites, shopping and more, and only a short walk from the Green Park Tube Station and plenty of bus stops.
Role Purpose
The Data and Reporting Engineer is primarily responsible for building, analysing, enhancing, and supporting best in class, business focused reporting and analytics, using Power BI and the wider Microsoft data platform to turn business questions and requirements into clear, trusted insight.
They must have the ability to lead on the translation of business needs into clear reporting and analytics requirements that enable the design, build and deployment of Power BI solutions and general reporting alongside more standard Data Engineering activities.
Working alongside the wider Data Engineering team, they will help shape, validate and consume the underlying pipelines, data warehouse and data lake that feed reporting, flagging data quality issues and new data needs as they arise.
Working closely with stakeholders across the business, they will lead requirements gathering (where applicable), define reporting measures and design user-friendly Power BI solutions. This includes developing semantic models, visualisations and governed reporting content, while promoting consistent definitions and a strong user experience.
They will be comfortable working across the platforms we operate (Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse and ADL) at a reporting and analytics level, and will be able to lead project work and requests from colleagues across the business for reporting, BI and custom reports.
They will stay up to date on the latest analytical, data management and business intelligence technologies, offering insight and assistance in their future adoption and alignment within the business.
Responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into clear, well-structured reporting and analytics solutions
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, define requirements and translate questions into practical Power BI solutions
- Design, build and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards, reports and scorecards that are clear, accessible and easy to use
- Develop and optimise semantic models, relationships, calculated columns and DAX measures to provide consistent business metrics
- Create reusable reporting datasets and certified content that support governed self-service analytics
- Own the reporting lifecycle from discovery and prototyping through testing, release, adoption and ongoing improvement
- Apply effective data visualisation and user-experience principles so reports communicate insight clearly and support decision-making
- Work with report owners and users to define KPIs, document metric definitions and resolve inconsistencies in reporting
- Monitor report usage, performance and refresh reliability, troubleshooting issues and improving the end-user experience
- Support Power BI workspace, access, deployment and content-governance processes in line with security and data standards
- Design, build and maintain data pipelines and the underlying data platform (Azure Synapse, Data Lake, Microsoft Fabric) that feeds reporting and analytics
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline and platform issues, ensuring high availability and reliability for reporting and analytics consumers
- Work with the wider Data Engineering team on data architecture decisions, flagging opportunities to improve reporting performance, cost efficiency and data quality
- Design and implement scalable, high-performance data models to support analytics and reporting use cases
- Implement and enforce data quality frameworks, validation checks and governance standards across pipelines and reporting datasets, in line with security and compliance policies
- Support the development and maintenance of Power BI and Fabric reporting assets, including semantic models, dataflows and reports
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment

Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A minimum of 5 years’ demonstrable experience in a BI Developer, Reporting Analyst, Data Analyst or Data Engineer role
- Proven experience designing and building ETL/ELT pipelines and managing the data lifecycle from ingestion through to reporting and consumption
- Strong programming experience in Python, with a focus on data processing and automation
- Solid, hands-on experience with Azure cloud data services, including Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake and Microsoft Fabric
- Proven, hands-on experience delivering data visualisation and reporting solutions using Power BI, including semantic models, DAX measures and governed reporting content
- Strong experience developing enterprise-scale BI, data warehousing, and analytics solutions
- Strong SQL skills, including query writing, performance tuning and data modelling for reporting purposes
- Proven ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders across multiple business functions, translating requirements into practical reporting solutions
- Ability to independently own and deliver end-to-end reporting solutions
- Experience implementing data validation and quality checks within reporting datasets and pipelines
- Strong understanding of data modelling concepts (e.g. star schema, dimensional modelling)
- BSc/BA in Computer Science, Data/Business Analytics, or a relevant field (or equivalent experience)

Desirable
- Exposure to big data processing frameworks such as Spark or Databricks
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for data or reporting workflows
- Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance frameworks
- Retail industry experience is preferred but not mandatory

- Familiarity with modern data engineering practices, including DevOps, CI/CD, and agile delivery methods
- Exposure to cloud-based data platforms and distributed data processing (e.g. Databricks, Spark)
