About The Role
The Data Engineer role at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence offers an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals to contribute to vital security projects that impact national safety and security. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting data collection, integration, and ETL applications. Your work will facilitate the availability and usability of data for key stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring that complex data flows are structured, secure, and efficient. This position involves modeling data requirements, sources, and flows to bring clarity and order to large-scale programs. You will also define data lifecycle processes, including creation, mastery, and destruction, to maintain control over corporate data assets. Additionally, you will utilize a variety of data management products to collect, store, visualize, and govern data and metadata, including unstructured data, with a focus on metadata governance and records management.

Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a strong background in data engineering, analysis, or science, with demonstrable experience in programming languages such as Python and familiarity with big data tools and technologies. A solid understanding of open-source data engineering platforms, data modeling techniques, and database concepts—including unstructured, NoSQL, and big data platforms—is essential. Experience working within the cybersecurity or intelligence domain is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates should also demonstrate adaptability, a willingness to learn new technologies, and the ability to evaluate and recommend suitable solutions based on customer needs. Security clearance is a requirement, and applicants must hold an active eDV before applying for this position.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and support data collection, integration, and ETL applications to facilitate data accessibility for stakeholders and technical teams.
- Model data requirements, sources, and flows to bring structure and clarity to complex projects.
- Define data lifecycle processes, including creation, mastering, and destruction, to ensure proper control and governance over corporate data assets.
- Utilize and evaluate various data management products for collecting, storing, visualizing, and governing data and metadata.
- Develop and define metadata schemas to enhance searchability and governance, including records management for unstructured data.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to implement innovative data solutions that support security and intelligence objectives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging data engineering technologies and industry best practices.
