Data Engineer

Leeds / Hybrid

Contract

We are Hiring Data Engineer role will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data platforms, pipelines, and data products that enable analytics, reporting, and AI/ML solutions. The role focuses on ensuring data is reliable, secure, performant, and accessible across the organisation. The role also requires defining data strategies that will facilitate the implementation of strategic wealth management product features on GBST.

Your responsibilities

  • Engineer Data Products that are stable, scalable, performant, accessible, testable, and secure
  • Utilising endorsed technologies and applying common build patterns to minimise debt
  • Adhering to group policies and frameworks for build and release
  • Participate in design/implementation reviews and team ceremonies to better understand the work through planning, commit to clear achievable goals, drive appropriate prioritisation, escalate impediments, act on learnings, and demonstrate successes
  • Continuously look for reuse, identifying opportunities to automate repetitive manual tasks
  • Participate in Technical Communities to advance shared capabilities
  • Promote active application custodianship by participating in incident root-cause analysis to identify and act on learnings
  • Support building a strong team by mentoring early career engineers to advance their technical skills, and by undertaking technical interviews [paired programming] to enable us to hire new engineers
  • Invest to develop your technical and agile skills

Your Profile

Essential skills/knowledge/experience

  • Experience of working with or integrating into GBST Composer platform
  • Cloud Platforms: GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run)
  • Data Engineering: SQL, Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, Data Modelling
  • Streaming & Integration: Kafka, REST APIs, Microservices
  • Google Cloud Storage (GCS) for building robust ETL and ELT pipelines, DataOps, CI/CD
  • Visualization & Reporting: Power BI or similar BI tools
  • Data Governance, Quality, and Security practices
  • Hands-on experience in managing data formats such as JSON, ORC, and CSV, with knowledge of schema design, partitioning, and performance tuning in Big Query

  • Experience of development on Google Cloud Platform
  • Programming: Python &/or Scala
  • Exposure to concepts of Data Vault, Data Factory, Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Integration, Product Quality, Master and Refine Data Management, Data Lake, and Data Visualization
