Data Engineer – Master Data Management | Python | AWS

A Data Engineer is required to join a data transformation and Master Data Management (MDM) programme within a global pharmaceutical environment.

The role focuses on improving the quality, consistency and usability of complex healthcare provider and institutional data used to support clinical trial site selection.

The successful candidate will be highly hands-on, working directly with data and code to develop cleansing logic, matching and deduplication rules, data pipelines and hierarchical data models. The initial focus will be a six-week data-cleansing pilot, with the potential to extend into a longer-term programme.

This role would suit a Data Engineer, Data Quality Engineer, Data Developer or MDM Engineer with strong Python and AWS experience and a background in data cleansing, data transformation and pipeline development.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop data-cleansing and transformation logic using Python.
  • Build and develop data pipelines in AWS.
  • Analyse, cleanse and standardise complex datasets.
  • Develop matching, merging and deduplication rules.
  • Identify duplicate, inconsistent and incomplete records.
  • Build logic to support data-quality remediation.
  • Model complex organisational and institutional hierarchies.
  • Work with parent organisations, subsidiaries, affiliates, institutions and individual healthcare sites.
  • Develop repeatable rules and processes for ongoing data governance.
  • Support the migration of data-cleansing logic into an enterprise MDM platform.
  • Work closely with other data engineers and project stakeholders.
  • Contribute hands-on to the initial six-week pilot and, subject to success, the longer-term implementation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

They should be comfortable in a hands-on, keys-on-keyboard engineering environment, rather than operating primarily at an architectural or stakeholder-management level.

Experience working with messy, inconsistent or high-volume datasets is particularly relevant. Candidates who have delivered data remediation, master data, data migration, entity resolution, deduplication or data-quality projects are likely to be strong matches.

Pharmaceutical or healthcare experience is advantageous but not mandatory where the candidate has strong transferable data-quality and MDM experience.
