Job Description
Job Title: Data Engineer
Location: Telford (2 days per week onsite)
Day Rate: £475 per day Inside IR35
Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance preferred, but candidates can start with BPSS while clearance is processed.
Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Engineer to join an expanding programme supporting critical data build, deletion, and retention initiatives.
Working within an established framework and pattern architecture, you will focus primarily on Talend and Oracle RDS systems. You will play a key role in developing project artefacts, conducting automated testing, and optimising data workflows across the full development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Development: Create project artefacts including Talend jobs, Oracle DDL and SQL scripts, and GitLab Pipeline enhancements
- Defect Resolution: Investigate, debug, and resolve issues identified across various testing phases
- Quality Assurance and Testing: Conduct Component Testing (including test data generation), build/execute automated test packs, and support QA and Performance Testing teams
- Code Review and Mentorship: Review colleagues' development and test code, offering guidance to junior engineers
- Deployment and Support: Assist with Production promotions and provide post-deployment warranty support
- Agile Collaboration: Report progress to the Lead Engineer and participate in scrum-of-scrums discussions

Required Skills And Experience
- ETL Tooling: Strong background with data ETL tools, Talend is strongly preferred, though transferable experience with Pentaho or Informatica will be considered.
- Database Knowledge: Proven hands-on experience working with Oracle RDS databases, writing complex SQL, and managing DDL
- CI/CD and Version Control: Exposure to GitLab or similar pipeline toolsets.
- Clearance: Ability to achieve or transfer BPSS / SC Clearance
